Media Boundaries and Conceptual Modelling forms part of the humanities tradition by facing one of the fundamental problems since antiquity: how different media represent the world we live in. It intersects also with the digital by addressing the problem with the help of a digital humanities method: computer assisted conceptual modelling. And it acknowledges the spatial turn by investigating the boundary between what has traditionally been the two main media for representation of geospatial information: texts and maps. It contributes to the further development of digital humanities and bridges the two areas of digital humanities and intermedia studies. Further, it strengthens the theoretical foundation for research and teaching in spatial digital humanities. The book meets the lack of critical discussion of the practice of digital mapping, offering a theoretically based understanding of such practices from a humanities perspective. More generally, it contributes to the theoretical discussion of modelling in digital humanities.

Traditionally, methodologies from the field of scholarly editing are applied to works of literature, e.g. in order to trace their genesis or present their varied history of transmission. The book presents accounts of women reformers in the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY). The editors collected their stories and put them in a historic context, covering a period of 150 years starting from the arrival of Gustava Lundahl from Sweden in 1870 with her vision of a girls' school. A large field of experiences is covered from slaves to high standing women; illiterate ones and Bible translators; teachers and medical professionals; women with family responsibilities and those, who dedicated their lives to the gospel; women who were imprisoned and those holding leading positions.
Literary Cultures and Digital Humanities in India
This book explores the use of digital humanities (DH) to understand, interpret, and annotate the poetics of Indian literary and cultural texts, which circulate in digital forms — in manuscripts — and as oral or musical performance. Drawing on the linguistic, cultural, historical, social, and geographic diversity of Indian texts and contexts, it foregrounds the use of digital technologies — including minimal computing, novel digital humanities research and teaching methodologies, critical archive generation and maintenance — for explicating poetics of Indian literatures and generating scholarly digital resources which will facilitate comparative readings. This book tells briefly about the pioneer missionaries effort in the previous Welega province in Western-Ethiopia, and then about the untiring Ethiopian pastor and bible translator, Onesimus Nezib (1856- 1931). However the author’s main intention with the writing is to recall from personal experiences during serving terms in the same province in close co-operation with national colleagues, and with a special focus on health care. In particular he writes about the work among the Gumuz people who are living along the Blue Nile River – also he records from his experiences among the Berta people, another lowland group. Graph Data-Models and Semantic Web Technologies in Scholarly Digital Editing
In scholarly digital editing, the established practice for semantically enriching digital texts is to add markup to a linear string of characters. Graph data-models provide an alternative approach, which is increasingly being given serious consideration. Labelled-property-graph databases, and the W3c's semantic web recommendation and associated standards (RDF and OWL) are powerful and flexible solutions to many of the problems that come with embedded markup. This volume explores the combination of scholarly digital editions, the graph data-model, and the semantic web from three perspectives: infrastructures and technologies, formal models, and projects and editions.
