An overview of the relationship between the near space and upper atmospheres. This book discusses basic elements in the auroral process including interplanetary plasma and fields, atmospheres, geomagnetic fields and the ionosphere.
About religion today, but takes "sweeping detours" through the history of religious marketplaces, from the dominance of Catholicism in medieval Europe (achieved through its system of franchising, or "MacDonaldization") to the truly free religious marketplaces that flourished in ancient South-East Asia, before today's Buddhist monopolies set in.

The minimally invasive, anterior-based muscle-sparing (ABMS) approach to total hip arthroplasty (THA) is utilized worldwide in select locations as an effective surgical technique. As the name suggests, it is completely muscle-sparing and touts the benefits of anterior-based surgery, including a lower dislocation rate, quicker return to baseline function, and lower narcotic use than many other surgical approaches. However, there is a paucity of collected information on the technique and research associated with this technique. This text serves as a compendium of information for those surgeons interested in utilizing this surgical approach as an all-inclusive reference. As an alternative anter...
Man, through intensive observations of natural phenomena, has learned about some of the basic principles which govern nature. The aurora is one of the most fascinating of these natural phenomena, and by studying it, man has just begun to comprehend auroral phenomena in terms of basic cosmic electrodynamic processes. The systematic and extensive observation of the aurora during and after the great international enterprise, the International Geophysical Year (lGY), led to the concept of the auroral substorm. Like many other geophysical phenomena, auroral displays have a dual time (universal- and local-time) dependence when seen by a ground-based observer. Thus, it was a difficult task for sing...
This book's structure reflects the different dimensions to learning science. The first section focuses on the importance of talk in the science classroom, while the second explores the key role of practical work. The third section is concerned with the creative, theoretical aspect of science. Section four follows this by considering the communication of ideas and how pupils learn to participate in the discourse of the scientific community. Section five emphasizes the place of science in the broader context, considering its moral and ethical dimensions and its place in a cultural context. Finally, section six explores the complexity of the task faced by science teachers, highlighting the knowledge and skills science teachers must acquire in order to create an environment in which students are motivated to learn science.
The NATO Advanced Research Workshop on "Transport Processes in the Middle Atmosphere" was held in Erice, Sicily, from November 23 through November 27, 1986. In addition to NATO, the workshop was supported by the International School of Atmospheric Physics of the Ettore Majorana Center for Scientific Culture, and by the National Research Council of Italy. The Organizing Committee was fortunate to enlist the participation of many of the experts in the field, and this book is an account of their contributions. In order to expedite publication and keep the results "as fresh as possible" , it was decided to forego formal review of the papers; instead, the authors were asked to solicit internal re...
