Deep Fried Southern Tales

Deep Fried Southern Tales: Short Stories A Summary A. Everette James, Jr., ScM, JD, MD There are certain truths that are universal, and then there are regional truths of great validity. Deep Fried Southern Tales are among those with impeccable veracity and are so compelling one can even share them with their best canine friend. In this instance it is a large Labrador retriever whose moniker is Mr. Grady. (A.K.A. Mr. Gravy) These tales are largely related in the Southern vernacular, a universal form of communication understood and appreciated by most of the realm. The subjects and stories are neither profound nor profanejust interesting flashes of everyday life in a rural construct. Sometime the protagonist talks directly to Mr. Gravy while others he speaks to hear the sound of his own voice. Each tale stands on its own. Thus the reader has a broad-spectrum selection opportunity to choose any sequence they wish. We hope you read them all but read what you like.

Knights in White

Knights in White is a novella about the often competitive nature of American academic medicine. While entirely fictional it embodies the sometimes continuous nature of the higher reaches of the profession. This is often not perceived by the public. Given the keen intellect, drive, effort and discipline required to achieve these positions, one might anticipate there would be conflict as between the relatively new Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs (VC) and the long standing Chair of Radiology. At first the VC attempts to control the Radiology Chair which is not effective. Alternatively he attempts to make life so unpleasant that he will voluntarily resign. The Chair has been in academic medicine at other even more esteemed institutions and has resources not known to the VC. These are cleverly employed to implicate the VC in some unsavory and unprofessional conduct. The results are devastating and this tragedy is played out behind doors at a prestigious medical institution.
