Recovering Our Ancestral Foodways
"Recovering Our Ancestral Foodways is the first relational ethnography of Quechua and Måaori peoples' philosophies of well-being, traditional ecological knowledge, and contributions to sustainable food systems. Based on over ten years of fieldwork in Peru and Aotearoa New Zealand, this book explores how Quechua and Måaori peoples describe, define, and enact well-being through the lens of foodways. By analyzing how two Indigenous communities operationalize knowledge to promote sustainable food systems, physical and spiritual well-being, and community health, Mariaelena Huambachano unearths a powerful philosophy of food sovereignty called the Chakana/Maahutonga. Huambachano argues that this Indigenous food sovereignty framework offers a foundation for understanding the practices and policies needed to transform the global food system to nourish the world and preserve the Earth. Caring Infrastructures
Care has become a trend in the art field, but much of the recent curatorial focus seems to be limited to symbolic gestures through exhibitions and public programming. These efforts, however, have led to few (infra)structural changes. The need remains for bringing about fair working conditions, gender equity, and support structures for caregivers and care-receivers. In response, Sascia Bailer redefines »curatorial care« as an infrastructural practice grounded in feminist care ethics that provides »care for presence« for diverse audiences. Drawing from socially engaged curatorial and artistic practices, she offers hands-on propositions for constructing caring infrastructures and provides a micro-political roadmap for curating with care.
