Democracy is not necessarily progressive, and will only be if we make it so. What Mondon and Winter call 'reactionary democracy' is the use of the concept of democracy and its associated understanding of the power to the people (demos cratos) for reactionary ends. The resurgence of racism, populism and the far right is not the result of popular demands as we are often told. It is rather the logical conclusion of the more or less conscious manipulation by the elite of the concept of 'the people' and the working class to push reactionary ideas. These narratives place racism as a popular demand, rather than as something encouraged and perpetuated by elites, thus exonerating those with the means...

Founded by Robert Beckand, Rens Muis and Pieter Vos in 1997, the Rotterdam-based graphic design studio 75B has designed everything from Nike posters and museum logos to books, magazines, flyers, cards, exhibitions and full-scale architectural interventions. Initially famed for their design work in European youth and music culture, the studio also spans the world of design and art, having exhibited artwork internationally (in 2006 they were artists in residence at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena). In 2009 Beckand left the studio and Muis and Vos continued working together, developing a style that has been described as "conceptual, simple, no-nonsense, ironical and tongue-in-cheek." Omitting the competition- winning house style designs and logos, The Work of 75B highlights the firm's more experimental projects--works that may not have direct applications or clients.

There is a lot of confusion about faith today. Materials on faith are often vague, incomplete or misleading. In God’s Kind of Faith, Dr. Aaron S. Winter explains in simple practical terms, what faith is, how we receive it, how to increase it, how to apply it and even how to operate in God’s own faith. Imagine having faith that is alive, active, growing and operating in your life today!

For the designers operating under the name 75B the domain of the arts is an indispensable field of activity. They consider autonomous artistic research to be an inbuilt component of their practice. For them the field of the arts is the place to engage with the basics. No goal, no immediate perspective on possible applications, no client. The fundamentals of graphic design and those of the fine arts are so far apart that 75B has amassed an ambivalent body of work. This duality reveals itself in communicative work done for clients alongside experimental work done for themselves.

This interdisciplinary book investigates the consequences of the language of terror for our lives in democratic societies. The approach of this book is in direct contrast with those that either view terrorism simplistically, as a clear reality threatening democratic society and thus requiring certain sorts of response, or argue, equally simplistically, that the invocation of terror is merely the ideological veil for continued capitalist exploitation. While closer in spirit to the second of these, this work does not simply dismiss the discourse on terror, but rather investigates the consequences of this discourse for the organisation of life in democratic societies. In interrogating the disco...

New Challenges for the EU Internal Security Strategy

In recent years, the EU and its member states have experienced a number of changes, as well as challenges, in the areas of politics, economics, security and law. As these areas are interconnected, changes and challenges to any of them have implications for the others, as well as implications for the populations and institutions of the EU or those coming into contact with its international power and influence. This edited collection focuses primarily on security and law, particularly the EU’s internal security strategy. The EU’s Internal Security Strategy, adopted by the Spanish presidency early in 2010, followed the Lisbon Treaty in 2009, building on previous developments within the EU i...
