Community-based crime control has become one of the principal policy responses to crime and disorder across western societies, and is regarded now as one of the keys to successful crime prevention and reduction. The aim of this book is to bring together findings from case studies of community-based crime control in England as a means of examining the prospects for this approach, its evolving relationship with criminal justice and social policies, and to assess the lessons internationally that can be drawn from this in the theory, research methods, politics and practice of crime control. At the same time the book advances an important new conceptual framework for understanding community-based crime control, focusing on an understanding of the diversity of control and preventative strategies, the locally particular conditions in which they are conducted, and the degree of choices open to local political actors involved in their conduct. Understanding diversity in this way is central to drawing lessons about the transferability of crime control theory and practice from one social context to another, avoiding the naÃf¯ve emulation of practices in different contexts.

The analysis of organised crime is of interest to academics, policymakers, and regulators. The approach taken is necessarily determined by the requirement for analysis and the available resources. This book is the outcome of a six-month research undertaken for the Belgian Gendarmerie, at Ghent University. In doing so the research draws extensively from a breadth of research into organised crime while being shaped by the intelligence and policy requirements of the Gendarmerie's Organised Crime unit. This is reflected in the use of a r...

Top criminologists from Britain, the USA and Australia explore the links between crime and risk through a range of themes, from the depiction of crime in the media to the dilemmas of policing, to the new punitiveness of criminal justice systems and the custodial warehousing of the poor and excluded.

Primal Fire

In the earliest days of the church, followers of Jesus embraced five core spiritual gifts—apostles, prophets, evangelists, shepherds, and teachers—and the world was set on fire as a result. Over the past two thousand years, however, some of these gifts have been neglected or set aside, and we’ve forgotten what we’re capable of. Now, in Primal Fire, Neil Cole shares the surprising truth about the five gifts of Jesus—what they mean, how they reflect Christ, and the remarkable power and synergy that comes when we all work together to ignite the church’s full potential and passion. Whether you’re a church leader who wants to equip your members to grow spiritually, or someone who wants to better understand your own contribution to the body of Christ, it’s time to reignite the Primal Fire and become the gifts that Christ intended for us to be.
