In preparing this second edition I have restricted myself to making small corrections and changes to the first edition. Two chapters have had extensive changes made. First, the material of Sections 14.1 and 14.2 has been rewritten to make explicit reference to the book of Bleistein and Handelsman, which appeared after the original Chapter 14 had been written. Second, Chapter 21, on numerical methods, has been rewritten to take account of comparative work which was done by the author and Brian Martin, and published as a review paper. The material for all of these chapters was in fact, prepared for a transla tion of the book. Considerable thought has been given to a much more com prehensive re...
This Dictionary covers information and communication technology (ICT), including hardware and software; information networks, including the Internet and the World Wide Web; automatic control; and ICT-related computer-aided fields. The Dictionary also lists abbreviated names of relevant organizations, conferences, symposia and workshops. This reference is important for all practitioners and users in the areas mentioned above, and those who consult or write technical material. This Second Edition contains 10,000 new entries, for a total of 33,000.
Transform methods provide a bridge between the commonly used method of separation of variables and numerical techniques for solving linear partial differential equations. While in some ways similar to separation of variables, transform methods can be effective for a wider class of problems. Even when the inverse of the transform cannot be found ana
INTRODUCTORY APPLICATIONS OF PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS With Emphasis on Wave Propagation and Diffusion This is the ideal text for students and professionals who have somefamiliarity with partial differential equations, and who now wishto consolidate and expand their knowledge. Unlike most other textson this topic, it interweaves prior knowledge of mathematics andphysics, especially heat conduction and wave motion, into apresentation that demonstrates their interdependence. The result isa superb teaching text that reinforces the reader's understandingof both mathematics and physics. Rather than presenting themathematics in isolation and out of context, problems in this textare framed to ...
Concise treatment of fundamental theory explores two-dimensional Laplace transform and basic definitions, theorems, applications of operational calculus in two variables. Includes tables of formulae for various categories of functions. 1962 edition.
International Series of Monographs in Pure and Applied Mathematics, Volume 54: Integration of Equations of Parabolic Type by the Method of Nets deals with solving parabolic partial differential equations using the method of nets. The first part of this volume focuses on the construction of net equations, with emphasis on the stability and accuracy of the approximating net equations. The method of nets or method of finite differences (used to define the corresponding numerical method in ordinary differential equations) is one of many different approximate methods of integration of partial differential equations. The other methods, and some based on newer equations, are described. By analyzing...
Eight year old Tina Denmark knows she was born to play Pippi Longstocking and she will do anything to win the part in her school musical. Anything includes murdering the leading lady! This aggressively outrageous musical hit garnered rave reviews during its long Off Broadway run which opened with Brittany Spears in the title role.
