A Life in Linguistics
Alexandra Cornilescu is an internationally renowned linguist, whose pioneering ideas have been influential in developing generative grammar in Romania, Europe and beyond. The weightiness of her contributions to the field is matched only by her talent for disseminating them. Ever since 1970, when she started teaching at the University of Bucharest, she has continuously played a tireless and inspirational role in the creation of several generations of linguists, which the academic world has come to admiringly refer to as The Bucharest School. As the initiator of the AICED conference, held annually in the English Department at the University of Bucharest, she has turned it into one of the leading platforms of generative linguistics in Europe. She has published extensively on Romanian and English linguistics and is also the founder and past editor of the journal Bucharest Working Papers in Linguistics. On the occasion of her 75th birthday, her friends, students and colleagues celebrate Alexandra Cornilescu’s work with this collection of essays on various topics of current theoretical interest.
Colour and colour naming: crosslinguistic approaches
The Colour and Colour Naming conference, held in 2015 at the University of Lisbon, offered a chance to explore colour naming processes from a cross-linguistic approach. The conference was an initiative of the working group Lexicography And Lexicology from a Pan-European Perspective, itself part of the COST action European Network of Lexicography. The working group investigates the various ways by which vocabularies of European languages can be represented in dictionaries and how existing information from single language dictionaries can be displayed and interlinked to better communicate their common European heritage. The proceedings gather together a selection of studies originally presented at the conference. The first section of the volume outlines a Pan-European perspective of colour names; the second section is devoted to the categorisation and lexicographic description of colour terms.

Deconstructing Language Structure and Meaning
This volume brings together a number of researchers working on generative syntax and semantics, language acquisition and phonology to explore various theoretical frameworks, ranging from generative grammar and formal semantics to more descriptive approaches. L1 Acquisition and L2 Learning
This volume includes fourteen papers on the acquisition of Romance languages, eleven of which were presented at the Romance Turn 9, held in Bucharest in September 2018. The studies offer new insights into central issues in the literature, such as syntactic complexity in both typical and impaired language settings, intervention effects, the acquisition of phenomena which involve both syntactic parameters and an external interface, as well as cross-linguistic interference effects. They present novel longitudinal and experimental data on the first language acquisition and second language learning of French, Italian, European and Brazilian Portuguese, Romanian and Spanish. A unique feature of this volume is the focus on the interaction of language specific properties and of factors which are not specific to the faculty of language in the narrow sense, such as data processing, the nature of the input, discourse structure, computational load, sociolinguistic properties, and the development of Theory of Mind.

Pseudo-Coordination and Multiple Agreement Constructions
Verbal Pseudo-Coordination (as in English ‘go and get’) has been described for a number of individual languages, but this is the first edited volume to emphasize this topic from a comparative perspective, and in connection to Multiple Agreement Constructions more generally. The chapters include detailed analyses of Romance, Germanic, Slavic and other languages. These contributions show important cross-linguistic similarities in these constructions, as well as their diversity, providing insights into areas such as the morphology-syntax and syntax-semantics interfaces, dialectal variation and language contact. With this collection, the editors want to make the insights and the knowledge presented at the 4th Ã-SKL available in written format to a wider public. The contributions present in this collection are excerpts from PhD as well as diploma theses and seminar papers. The fifteen papers collected in this volume are very diverse, as are the authors themselves, who come from nine different countries, from Portugal in the West, Iran in the East and Norway in the North. The papers come from a variety of linguistic subdisciplines. Besides a strong focus on syntax, cognitive and historical linguistics, there are papers exploring pragmatics, foreign language acquisition, phonology and sociolinguistics.
