At the beginning of a new millennium, Turkey finds itself at a critical juncture in its democratic evolution. This momentous event has been precipitated by its desire to enter into the European Union and the recent financial crisis it has faced, both of which have fuelled the need for the creation of a strong, democratic Turkey. Migration and Transformation:

The focus of this book lies in the complex and multi-level processes of migrant transnationalism in four transnational spaces: India-UK, Morocco-France and Turkey-Germany and Estonia-Finland. Critical Reflections in Migration Research is an attempt to critically approach the epistemology of migration research. The editors bring together an array of critical essays and opinion pieces in order to analyze the migration research in various countries. The volume makes an original contribution by presenting new research directions in the field especially in Turkey, Morocco, Poland, Germany, France, and the UK. The contributors bring a fresh perspective by pointing out that interaction between West-North and East-South is needed in order to produce more holistic studies and bypass the difficulties of funding especially in the peripheries of Europe. This volume will be appealing to researchers, scholars, and students of political science, sociology, and anthropology in the field of migration studies.

Conflict Areas in the Caucasus and Central Asia

The Caucasus region and Central Asia covers a large part of the Eurasian. Both regions, where Russia and China have a serious influence and visibility, also have a location that reflects the hegemonic expectations of both these actors. In this context, domestic political developments and even internal conflicts in the region can be linked to the policies of Russia and China to a certain extent and have the potential to affect the motives of these two powers. Although Central Asia is rich in natural resources, it is landlocked and has lagged other nations in terms of agricultural production and industrial development. Although the Caucasus is divided into the North, the territory of Russia, and the South, where three independent states are located, it is insufficient in terms of production and development. The Caucasus stands out especially with energy projects and its feature of being a commercial corridor.

Particularly in Europe, there is a common misconception that Turkey is primarily a country of emigration (or migrantsending country) and a source country for asylum seekers. However, reality is that Turkey has morphed into a country of immigration, and more prominently a transit country, as a result of intense migratory movements over the last two decades. This paper analyses the evolution of Turkey's migration policies and the way in which EU-Turkey relations have affected Turkey's migration laws and practices.
