"Emancipation is the first truly comprehensive reference book covering the first one hundred years of African Americans in the legal profession. Other legal historians and biographers must take Smith's work as a starting point for gauging the impact Black lawyers and institutions have had upon the evolution of the American legal profession."--Black Issues in Higher Education. "The sheer quantity of information contained in Emancipation is overwhelming; the impact of page after page of data, stories and lives, and the thousands of detailed, extensive footnotes and documentation is simply overpowering. Rockabilly, a musical designation coined by Billboard magazine in the mid-1950s, is a rambunctious rhythmic style combining the liveliest elements of country, gospel, and rhythm and blues. Popularized by such performers as Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly and Ricky Nelson, rockabilly has been a major influence on the music of Bob Dylan, the Beatles and Bruce Springsteen (among many others). This book captures the essence of life on the road and in the recording studio through interviews with many of rockabilly's foremost artists. Among those sharing their experiences are Jerry Allison and Sonny Curtis of the Crickets, Sonny Burgess, Wanda Jackson, Glen Glenn, the Collins Kids, Charlie Gracie and Deke Dickerson. Also included are several rare publicity photos.

"The events that inspired these verses are collections of memories and fragments that have merged to form poems. The stories of loving experiences between players, that looking for love or company ended up with a wounded heart. These stanzas represent detailed images of the experiences leading to disenchantments and frustrations that loving and losing produces; without forgetting the sublime rapture and ecstasy that loving also inspires. These verses touch the essence of the heart and soul, appealing to that collective need we call love; that human sentiment so powerful, that it can make us touch heaven or sink us to darkest depths of hell."
