The Handbook of Environmental Health

Environmental issues, global warming, pollution, and chemical dumping, are ever present in the news. But what about the health problems these issues pose? Frank Spellman and Melissa Stoudt identify the hazardous environmental issues and explain the science behind the dangers to our health. The Handbook of Environmental Health begins with defining the most commonly used terms, clearly explained for any student to learn and understand. Then each chapter tackles a different issue, outlining its scientific concepts and relating it to our health, with case studies or scenarios to bring the concepts to life. Lastly, the chapters conclude with thought-provoking questions. The authors also provide solutions to control the factors that harm our health, making this handbook a valuable resource for any student, library, or one interested in the dangers of environmental health.

Decades have passed since the last war, the one that swallowed the world. Afterward there was a heavy sadness that conformed to the lands, bringing with it violence, famine and cruelty. A young man traveling south finds himself in the middle of a desert and a village. Caution of this new stranger was high at first, but quickly subsides, realizing that the young traveler didn’t intend harm. After friendly exchanges, the young stranger is introduced to four elders of the village. After sitting down to eat a meal with the elders, they begin inquiring why he’s so far out in the desert of old Nevada. Telling them he wanted to see the ruins of the old cities, they begin to describe to him why he shouldn’t. Each elder begins to tell their tale about what happened during the great war, how fire fell from the sky, how they survived and the things they had to do. And hopefully for them their words would influence this young man to avoid such things, to stay where it’s safe; to live.

Barek also has an ulterior motive. He wants not just to destroy SkyBord but to stop the black hole experiment. Their plans come unstuck when Julie Billinghurst, a beautiful technologist, dies in mysterious circumstances and Cameron Bass is asked to investigate. Race Music

Into the newly-settled (in 1910) Mississippi Delta country comes Sam Schwartz, a Russian immigrant, one of the many wandering Jewish peddlers who comb the backwoods of the American South, a man fleeing an oppressive country and a painful past. He experiences an emotional rebirth with Leafy, a black Delta woman. Race Music (the original term for blues recordings) is the story of Sam and Leafy's relationship, of the family they start and of a love betrayed - a betrayal that has consequences that will span fifty years and reach all the way from the Delta to Chicago's South Side. Delta music - the blues - is always in the background. Celebrated figures like Charlie Patton and Bessie Smith and the fabled Robert Johnson are encountered as they create the Delta's truest history and cultural legacy.
