This volume is based on talks given at the Conference in Honor of the 60th Anniversary of Alberto Verjovsky, a prominent mathematician in Latin America who made significant contributions to dynamical systems, geometry, and topology. Articles in the book present recent work in these areas and are suitable for graduate students and research mathematicians.
A Tribute to the Iconoclastic Mathematician Dr Francisco Bulnes
This book is a tribute to a universal mathematician, whose contributions to pure and applied mathematics in various fields, such as algebraic geometry, mathematical physics, infinite Lie theory, astrophysics, theoretical physics, nanotechnology and electronics, are relevant for the creation of future technologies and have facilitated a greater understanding of the universe. The book contains various anecdotes of the academic experiences of Dr Francisco Bulnes, and analyses of some of the contributions he made to his fields of study. The book will be of great interest to PhD students, providing them with motivation and inspiration for their own research projects, as well as other researchers.
Introduction to Classical Geometries
This book develops the geometric intuition of the reader by examining the symmetries (or rigid motions) of the space in question. This approach introduces in turn all the classical geometries: Euclidean, affine, elliptic, projective and hyperbolic. The main focus is on the mathematically rich two-dimensional case, although some aspects of 3- or $n$-dimensional geometries are included. Basic notions of algebra and analysis are used to convey better understanding of various concepts and results. Concepts of geometry are presented in a very simple way, so that they become easily accessible: the only pre-requisites are calculus, linear algebra and basic analytic geometry.

This volume contains many of the papers in the area of differential equations presented at the 1984 Solomon Lefschetz Centennial Conference held in Mexico City.
Holomorphic Dynamics
The objective of the meeting was to have together leading specialists in the field of Holomorphic Dynamical Systems in order to present their current reseach in the field. The scope was to cover iteration theory of holomorphic mappings (i.e. rational maps), holomorphic differential equations and foliations. Many of the conferences and articles included in the volume contain open problems of current interest. The volume contains only research articles.
Bifurcations and Periodic Orbits of Vector Fields
The last thirty years were a period of continuous and intense growth in the subject of dynamical systems. New concepts and techniques and at the same time new areas of applications of the theory were found. The 31st session of the Seminaire de Mathematiques Superieures (SMS) held at the Universite de Montreal in July 1992 was on dynamical systems having as its center theme "Bifurcations and periodic orbits of vector fields". This session of the SMS was a NATO Advanced Study Institute (ASI). The motivation for this collection comes from the wide-ranging research of the distinguished mathematician, Antonio Campillo, in these and related fields. Trends in Singularities
The collection of papers in this volume represents recent advances in the under standing of the geometry and topology of singularities. The book covers a broad range of topics which are in the focus of contemporary singularity theory. Its idea emerged during two Singularities workshops held at the University of Lille (USTL) in 1999 and 2000. Laminations and Foliations in Dynamics, Geometry and Topology
This volume is based on a conference held at SUNY, Stony Brook (NY). The concepts of laminations and foliations appear in a diverse number of fields, such as topology, geometry, analytic differential equations, holomorphic dynamics, and renormalization theory. Although these areas have developed deep relations, each has developed distinct research fields with little interaction among practitioners. The conference brought together the diverse points of view of researchers from different areas. This book includes surveys and research papers reflecting the broad spectrum of themes presented at the event. Of particular interest are the articles by F. Bonahon, "Geodesic Laminations on Surfaces", and D. Gabai, "Three Lectures on Foliations and Laminations on 3-manifolds", which are based on minicourses that took place during the conference.
