Nuevo Chile, acción colectiva y tejido social.

Actores sociales, acciones colectivas y transformación social.

Colombia is a one of the most biologically diverse countries in the world: although it takes up slightly less than one percent of the Earth's surface, it is home to approximately ten percent of the world's plants and animals, with a rich variety of flora and fauna and a diversity of primate species that is only superseded by Brazil and Peru in number. This vibrantly illustrated field guide is the result of a wealth of field work conducted on Colombian primates both in and out of the country. The volume illustrates and describes twenty-eight primate species comprising forty-three taxa, of which fifteen taxa are only found in Colombia. The field guide also includes comprehensive chapters on primate classification, fossil history, and conservation, and each is augmented by a wealth of finely detailed drawings, photographs, and maps. Primates of Colombia will be an invaluable resource for primatologists and naturalists alike.

Clinical Guidelines for Chronic Conditions in the European Union

"A new study by a team of European researchers examines for the first time the various national practices relating to clinical guidelines. It looks at the situation in 29 European countries (the EU27, plus Norway and Switzerland) and concludes that while some countries might have made progress many others are still relying on sporadic and unclear processes. There are, however, tried and tested examples which, if shared, could assure and improve the quality of health care across Europe."--Publisher's website.

Frontier Road

Frontier Road uses the history of one road in southern Colombia—known locally as “the trampoline of death”—to demonstrate how state-building processes and practices have depended on the production and maintenance of frontiers as inclusive-exclusive zones, often through violent means. Considers the topic from multiple perspectives, including ethnography of the state, the dynamics of frontiers, and the nature of postcolonial power, space, and violence Draws attention to the political, environmental, and racial dynamics involved in the history and development of transport infrastructure in the Amazon region Examines the violence that has sustained the state through time and space, as well as the ways in which ordinary people have made sense of and contested that violence in everyday life Incorporates a broad range of engaging sources, such as missionary and government archives, travel writing, and oral histories

Embodied Collective Memory

Embodied Collective Memory

The human body is not a given fact; it is not, as Descartes believed, a “machine made up of flesh and bones.” The body is acquired, achieved, and learned. It is thus full of mimetic and mnemonic implications. The body remembers, and it does so in collectively relevant ways. Gestures, corporeal and phonetic rhythms, affective idioms, and emotional styles — perceptual, sensorial, motoric, and affective schemata — are all largely learned in shared social contexts. These aspects of the embodied experience are often consigned to habit, to bodily automatisms, and to corporeal memories that reflect aspects of culture. But if the body reflects certain aspects of culture that press to become ...

Periodization and Sovereignty

Despite all recent challenges to stage-oriented histories, the idea of a division between a "medieval" and a "modern" period has survived, even flourished, in academia. Periodization and Sovereignty demonstrates that this survival is no innocent affair. By examining periodization together with the two controversial categories of feudalism and secularization, Kathleen Davis exposes the relationship between the constitution of "the Middle Ages" and the history of sovereignty, slavery, and colonialism. This book's groundbreaking investigation of feudal historiography finds that the historical formation of "feudalism" mediated the theorization of sovereignty and a social contract, even as it pro...
