This tutorial introduces readers to several variants of routing problems with profits. In these routing problems each node has a certain profit, and not all nodes need to be visited. Since the orienteering problem (OP) is by far the most frequently studied problem in this category of routing problems, the book mainly focuses on the OP. In turn, other problems are presented as variants of the OP, focusing on the similarities and differences. The goal of the OP is to determine a subset of nodes to visit and in which order, so that the total collected profit is maximized and a given time budget is not exceeded. The book provides a comprehensive review of variants of the OP, such as the team OP, the team OP with time windows, the profitable tour problem, and the prize-collecting travelling salesperson problem. In addition, it presents mathematical models and techniques for solving these OP variants and discusses their complexity. Several simple examples and benchmark instances, together with their best-known results, are also included. Finally, the book reviews the latest applications of these problems in the fields of logistics, tourism and others.
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Learning and Intelligent Optimization, LION 5, held in Rome, Italy, in January 2011. The 32 revised regular and 3 revised short papers were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 99 submissions. In addition to the contributions to the general track there are 11 full papers and 3 short papers presented at the following four special sessions; IMON: Intelligent Multiobjective OptimizatioN, LION-PP: Performance Prediction Self* EAs: Self-tuning, self-configuring and self-generating evolutionary algorithms LION-SWAP: Software and Applications.
This book constitutes the refereed post-conference proceedings on Learning and Intelligent Optimization, LION 15, held in Athens, Greece, in June 2021. The 30 full papers presented have been carefully reviewed and selected from 35 submissions. LION deals with designing and engineering ways of "learning" about the performance of different techniques, and ways of using past experience about the algorithm behavior to improve performance in the future. Intelligent learning schemes for mining the knowledge obtained online or offline can improve the algorithm design process and simplify the applications of high-performance optimization methods. Combinations of different algorithms can further improve the robustness and performance of the individual components.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 15th European Conference on Evolutionary Computation in Combinatorial Optimization, EvoCOP 2015, held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in April 2015, co-located with the Evo*2015 events EuroGP, EvoMUSART and EvoApplications. The 19 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 46 submissions. The papers cover methodology, applications and theoretical studies. The methods included evolutionary and memetic (hybrid) algorithms, iterated local search, variable neighbourhood search, ant colony optimization, artificial immune systems, hyper-heuristics and other adaptive approaches. The applications include both traditional domains, such as graph coloring, knapsack, vehicle routing, job-shop scheduling, the p-median and the orienteering problems; and new(er) domains such as designing deep recurrent neural networks, detecting network community structure, lock scheduling of ships, cloud resource management, the fire-fighter problem and AI planning. The theoretical studies involved approximation ratio, runtime and black-box complexity analyses.
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 12th International Conference on Learning and Intelligent Optimization, LION 12, held in Kalamata, Greece, in June 2018. The 28 full papers and 12 short papers presented have been carefully reviewed and selected from 62 submissions. The papers explore the advanced research developments in such interconnected fields as mathematical programming, global optimization, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. Special focus is given to advanced ideas, technologies, methods, and applications in optimization and machine learning.
Metaheuristics have been a very active research topic for more than two decades. During this time many new metaheuristic strategies have been devised, they have been experimentally tested and improved on challenging benchmark problems, and they have proven to be important tools for tackling optimization tasks in a large number of practical applications. In other words, metaheuristics are nowadays established as one of the main search paradigms for tackling computationally hard problems. Still, there are a large number of research challenges in the area of metaheuristics. These challenges range from more fundamental questions on theoretical properties and performance guarantees, empirical alg...
This book constitutes the proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Computational Logistics, ICCL 2020, held in Enschede, The Netherlands, in September 2020. The 49 papers included in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 73 submissions. They were organized in topical sections named: maritime and port logistics; vehicle routing and scheduling; freight distribution and city logistics; network design and scheduling; and selected topics in logistics. Due to the Corona pandemic ICCL 2020 was held as a virtual event.
