This eBook is a collection of articles from a Frontiers Research Topic. Frontiers Research Topics are very popular trademarks of the Frontiers Journals Series: they are collections of at least ten articles, all centered on a particular subject. With their unique mix of varied contributions from Original Research to Review Articles, Frontiers Research Topics unify the most influential researchers, the latest key findings and historical advances in a hot research area! Find out more on how to host your own Frontiers Research Topic or contribute to one as an author by contacting the Frontiers Editorial Office: frontiersin.org/about/contact.
The main aim of this book is to provide a complete picture of current research on phosphazene compounds carried out around the world. The book opens with a general introduction, then moves on to cover synthetic aspects of phosphazene polymers, their characterization in solution and from the theoretical, thermal, and mechanical points of view; application aspects of poly(organophosphazenes); and the synthesis, characterization, and practical utilization of cyclophosphazenes. There is particular focus on the use of cyclophosphazenes as hydraulic fluids and additives, as cores for star polymers or dendrimers, and as starting substrates for supramolecular chemistry and nanostructured materials. The spectroscopic characterization of these compounds by NMR and Raman techniques is also discussed. Annotation : 2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com).
Adhesive bonding has been used in the manufacture of primary aircraft fuselage and wing structures by various constructors since 1945. By a proper design, adhesive bonding often helps in designing structures mechanically equivalent to or even stronger than conventional assemblies. Adhesive Joining of Structural Components: New Insights and Technologies introduces the reader to some recent progress involved in adhesive joining of structural components. The chapters, seminal SAE International technical papers, cover the most recent advances in adhesive materials, surface preparation and controls, innovative bonding technologies, hybrid bonded/bolted joints, non-destructive testing and failure ...

All contributing authors were nominated by the Chief Editors and Editorial Office in recognition of their prominence and influence in their respective fields. The cutting-edge work presented in this article collection highlights the diversity of research performed across the entire breadth of the materials science and engineering field and reflects on the latest advances in theory, experiment, and methodology ...
Damage and Repair of Aerospace Composite Materials reports the latest developments on the detection and repair of composite structures from the perspective of ten SAE technical papers, especially chosen for this book. This micro-collection of papers offers an overview of composite utilization on large-scale commercial aircraft as well as an outline of general damage inspection and repair of composite structures. On the damage detection side, really important techniques are explained, including: • Porosity inspection of large composite panels. • Damage detection of large composites using acoustic ultrasonic and radio frequency methods. • Discrimination of damaged and undamaged composite...
Biocomposites are widely used in the medical industry to repair and restore bone, tooth, cartilage skin and other tissues. Biomedical composites, provides a thorough review of the current status, recent progress and future trends in composites for biomedical applications.Part one discusses the fundamentals of biocomposites with chapters on natural composites, design and fabrication of biocomposites, and hard and soft tissue applications of biocomposites. Part two then reviews applications of biocomposites. Chapters discuss composites for bone repair, composite coatings for implants, composites for spinal implants, injectable composites and composites for tissue engineered scaffolds. Chapters...
The Frontiers in Materials Editorial Office team are delighted to present the inaugural “Frontiers in Materials: Rising Stars” article collection, showcasing the high-quality work of internationally recognized researchers in the early stages of their independent careers. All Rising Star researchers featured within this collection were individually nominated by the Journal’s Chief Editors in recognition of their potential to influence the future directions in their respective fields. Integrated Biomaterials Science provides an intriguing insight into the world of biomaterials. It explores the materials and technology which have brought advances in new biomaterials, highlighting the way in which modern biology and medicine are synergistically linked to other key scientific disciplines-physics, chemistry, and engineering. In doing so, Integrated Biomaterials Science contains chapters on tissue engineering and gene therapy, standards and parameters of biomaterials, applications and interactions within the industrial world, as well as potential aspects of patent regulations. Integrated Biomaterials Science serves as a comprehensive guide to understanding this dynamic field, yet is designed so that chapters may be read and understood independently, depending on the needs of the reader. Integrated Biomaterials Science is attractive to a broad audience interested in a deeper understanding of this evolving field, and serves as a key resource for researchers and students of biomaterials courses, providing all with an opportunity to probe further.
Gleria (materials science, Padova University, Italy) and De Jaeger (chemistry, University of Sciences and Technologies, France) present the latest work in the synthesis and characterization of poly(organophosphazenes). The book opens with a general introduction on background, developments, and future perspectives, then covers the synthetic aspects of phosphazene polymers, with chapters on areas such as ambient temperature cationic condensation synthesis of polyphosphazenes and high molecular weight polyspirophosphazenes. Chapters on the characterization of phosphazene polymers in solution explore topics including thermal and mechanical properties of polyphosphazenes and electrochemical behavior of phosphazenes.
