The Return of the Contemporary
In The Return of the Contemporary, Nicolás Campisi combines the fields of post-dictatorship studies and environmental humanities to analyze Latin American cultural production in the neoliberal age. Each chapter pairs two authors from different parts of Latin America and the Caribbean who create a common vocabulary in which to frame the various crises of the region’s present and recent past, such as climate change, forced migration, the collapse of state institutions, and the afterlives of slavery. By situating his argument at the intersection of ecocritical and environmental humanities, affect studies, and the politics of memory and postmemory, Campisi presents new comparative methods to show how Latin America's neoliberal crisis prompted significant changes in how the novel as a form imagines a different future.
Heritage Languages at the Crossroads: Cultural Contexts, Individual Differences, and Methodologies
This Research Topic focuses on heritage languages at the crossroads by approaching heritage language bilingualism in an interdisciplinary way. A language qualifies as a heritage language if it is a minority language spoken at home in a majority language context. Any language can be the societal majority language in one context and the heritage language in another. While the number of empirical studies on language acquisition and processing in heritage language bilingualism has increased in recent years, heritage language bilinguals are an understudied subgroup of bilinguals. When examined as adults, heritage-speaker bilinguals tend to show significant differences in their heritage language performance (use) and competence (grammatical knowledge) from one another. This variation is particularly unusual because heritage speakers, like monolinguals, are native speakers of the heritage language.

This landmark volume provides the first expansive history of this literature from its inception to the present day, offering a narrative of how American literary studies and sexuality studies became deeply entwined and what they can teach each other. It examines how American literature produces and is in turn woven out of sexualities, gender pluralities, trans-ness, erotic subjectivities, and alternative ways of inhabiting bodily morphology. Vztahy center a periferií jsou historicky variabilní, kulturní konfigurace se mění. To je i případ románských literatur — původní dominance Evropy přechází do fáze recepce a různorodého vlivu Amerik a Afriky na evropské literatury. A česká literatura? Není i v ní podobná interakce s evropským a mimoevropským prostorem?
