A concepção do livro Fauna e Flora do Parque Estadual Mata São Francisco surgiu da necessidade de unir em uma única obra os diversos trabalhos realizados no local pelas três diferentes universidades localizadas próximas ao parque. Além da ampliação do conhecimento, reunir os assuntos em uma obra foi a maneira adequada de compartilhar todos os levantamentos realizados nesse local. O livro tem a função social de disseminar o conhecimento de nossa fauna e flora, e pode ser utilizado nas diversas esferas do ensino como consulta de pesquisa e outras atividades. A obra contribui também como base adequada para melhorias no plano de manejo da fauna e flora contidas no parque. São 18 capítulos distribuídos e organizados em ordem filogenética, escritos por 46 autores. Biodiversity in Ecosystems
The term biodiversity has become a mainstream concept that can be found in any newspaper at any given time. Concerns on biodiversity protection are usually linked to species protection and extinction risks for iconic species, such as whales, pandas and so on. However, conserving biodiversity has much deeper implications than preserving a few (although important) species. Biodiversity in ecosystems is tightly linked to ecosystem functions such as biomass production, organic matter decomposition, ecosystem resilience, and others. Many of these ecological processes are also directly implied in services that the humankind obtains from ecosystems. The aim of this book is to describe chemical and biochemical aspects of winemaking that are currently being researched. The authors have selected the very best experts for each of the areas. The first part of the book summarizes the most important aspects of winemaking technology and microbiology. The second most extensive part deals with the different groups of compounds, how these are modified during the various steps of the production process, and how they affect the wine quality, sensorial aspects, and physiological activity, etc. The third section describes undesirable alterations of wines, including those affecting quality and food safety. Finally, the treatment of data will be considered, an aspect which has not yet been tackled in any other book on enology. In this chapter, the authors not only explain the tools available for analytical data processing, but also indicate the most appropriate treatment to apply, depending on the information required, illustrating with examples throughout the chapter from enological literature.
