Descendants of Henry Tuthill, 1612-1650
Henry Tuthill was baptized 28 June 1612 in Tharston, Norfolk County, England. He came to America prior to 1637 at which time he had a lot in Hingham, Massachusetts. In 1644 he sold his lot and went to Southold, Long Island where his brother, John, had located. John Tuthill returned to England and died there. Henry stayed on Long Island and his descendants lived there until the American Revolution when they began, slowly to disperse to all parts of the nation and a few went to Canada. Some of them spelled their name as Tuttle.

In 1635, three Tuttle heads of families emigrated to America on the "Planter." These were two brothers, Richard and William, accompanied by their mother, Isable Wells Tuttle; and their first cousin, John, accompanied by his wife, her children by her former Lawrence husband, and her mother, Joan Arnold Antrobus.

"Shipwreck" John Tuttle, Ancestor of the New Hampshire Tuttles
Collection of family group records of the descendants of John Tuttle who was born in the 1610's in England or Wales. He immigrated to America on the ship "Angel Gabriel" with his wife, Dorothy and family in 1635. They were shipwrecked on 15 Aug. 1635 off the coast of Maine. They eventually settled in Dover, New Hampshire, ca. 1638. All descendants in this book come through John, Jr. (1646- 1720). Descendants lived in New Hampshire, Maine and elsewhere in the United States.
Peter Tuttle, B. 1660, Ancestor of Some Southern Tuttles
Peter Tuttle was born in 1660 in Great Britain and immigrated to Maryland in 1680. He had a son, Peter (ca. 1682-ca. 1732), whose family lived in St. Mary's County, Maryland. Descendants lived in Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Missouri, Colorado, Texas, Kentucky, and elsewhere.

Thomas Welles (ca. 1590-1660), son of Robert and Alice Welles, was born in Stourton, Whichford, Warwickshire, England, and died in Wethersfield, Connecticut. He married (1) Alice Tomes (b. before 1593), daughter of John Tomes and Ellen (Gunne) Phelps, 1615 in Long Marston, Gloucestershire. She was born in Long Marston, and died before 1646 in Hartford, Connecticut. They had eight children. He married (2) Elizabeth (Deming) Foote (ca. 1595-1683) ca. 1646. She was the widow of Nathaniel Foote and the sister of John Deming. She had seven children from her previous marriage.
