This IBM® Redbooks® publication highlights IBM Technical Computing as a flexible infrastructure for clients looking to reduce capital and operational expenditures, optimize energy usage, or re-use the infrastructure. This book strengthens IBM SmartCloud® solutions, in particular IBM Technical Computing clouds, with a well-defined and documented deployment model within an IBM System x® or an IBM Flex SystemTM. This provides clients with a cost-effective, highly scalable, robust solution with a planned foundation for scaling, capacity, resilience, optimization, automation, and monitoring. This book is targeted toward technical professionals (consultants, technical support staff, IT Architects, and IT Specialists) responsible for providing cloud-computing solutions and support.
This book presents a brief design approach for cable-supported bridges based on experiences from past projects, both domestic and international, that were shared by experts in bridge engineering. The specifications outlined in the book are adopted in the design of several cable-stayed and extradosed bridges in India and abroad. These specifications are in conformance with the global best practices. In addition, reference literature has been consulted during the compilation of various sections of the book. In this endeavor, the author sought suggestions and collective guidance from some eminent specialists in cable-supported bridges from the USA, Europe and Asia in order to provide a glimpse ...
In these lecture notes which grew out of my lectures at the Honours classes of Honash University, I have attempted to develop queueing and storage problems from a unified viewpoint. It has been recognized a decade ago that many of the queueing and storage problems belong to the same family of stochastic processes; so a problem in storage theory may bave an analogue in a queueing situation and vice versa. In my notes I have highlighted this aspect and tried to develop a broad perspective in a student rather than to work out in detail the various e~rcises in queueing and inventory problems which are mostly available in the literature produced so far. I have also pointed out some of the practic...
Modeling, simulation, and optimization are three critical components of modern design practice that have grown tremendously over the last few decades with the increased use of computer-aided designs in engineering and industry. This book takes a multidisciplinary approach to the trends and challenges of computational modeling, simulation, and optimization techniques and their applications in the field of engineering sciences. It presents practical case studies and illustrations of computational techniques on materials and manufacturing in a diverse selection of applications, such as for drug delivery systems, for refrigeration models, for polymer and aluminum metal matrix composites, for automotive and aircraft applications, and even for talent management strategies on retaining talented employees.
This new book delves into how modern technologies—i.e., global positioning systems (GPS), unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), image processing methods, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning—are being used to make agriculture more farmer-friendly and more economically profitable. The volume focuses on the use of smart sensors, actuators, and decision support systems to provide intelligent data about crop health and for monitoring for yield prediction, soil quality, nutrition requirement prediction, etc. The authors discuss robotic-based innovations in agriculture, soft computing methodologies for crop forecasting, machine learning techniques to classify and identify plant diseases, deep convolutional neural networks for recognizing nutrient deficiencies, and more.
