Fürst Johann Adam Andreas von Liechtenstein (1657-1712) zählt zu den prägenden Persönlichkeiten an der Wende vom 17. zum 18. Jahrhundert. Ausgestattet mit besonderen ökonomischen Fähigkeiten und begünstigt vom Wirtschaftsaufschwung der Zeit, vermehrte Johann Adam Andreas seine Einkünfte und galt schon bald als einer reichsten Fürsten seiner Zeit. In kluger Abgrenzung vom Wiener Hof sah Johann Adam Andreas seine Hauptaufgabe in der steten Vermehrung des Grundbesitzes. Als Bauherr der liechtensteinischen Palais in der Bankgasse und in der Roßau wetteiferte Johann Adam Andreas mit seinem Freund, dem Prinzen Eugen von Savoyen-Carignan. Bleibende Bedeutung erlangte Fürst Johann Adam Andreas durch den Erwerb der reichsfreien Herrschaften Schellenberg und Vaduz. Er schuf damit die Grundlage für das heutige souveräne Fürstentum Liechtenstein.
