Peter Roehr

Peter Roehr

When Frankfurt artist Peter Roehr died in 1968 at the young age of 23, he left behind several hundred works which exclusively pursued serial repetition. From found materials he created montages of photographs, text, typography, objects, sound, and film probing the concept of redundancy. Now that four decades have lapsed since his death, the nature of Roehr's works rises to the fore. They become amazingly enhanced and turn into narrative formulations oscillating between ready-made and seriality, pop and minimal art, everyday life and abstraction.

Martin Liebscher (*1964 in Naumburg) is a "man with opportunities." Connoisseurs of art and photography knew that at the latest after the release of his now sold-out and highly sought-after book of photographs, A Man with Opportunities. Over two days in December 2007, Liebscher turned what Kurt Weidemann referred to as the "very remarkable Dr. Cantz'sche Druckerei [Printing Plant]" into the World of Liebscher Printing Plant. The entire building--from the first-aid room to the pressroom--was filled with his images of hundreds of Liebschers: Liebscher administering first aid, Liebscher scanning, Liebscher editing, Liebscher printing, Liebscher showering, Liebscher . . .This elaborately designed and extremely oversized book is being published in a limited edition of 666 copies.

Francis Alys walks, and as he walks, he makes art. This exhibition catalog/flip book recreates Alys's current piece, documenting a specific moment in Frankfurt, when he walks by a long metal fence and runs a stick along its posts, though there is no sound. Alys reflects on the role of laughter and trickery in the creative process. In further pieces, he walks through Havana (wearing magnetic shoes), Mexico City (carrying a loaded gun through the streets until arrested) and Copenhagen (wandering through the town on drugs). His actions leave few traces and as a rule are not well documented but later reconstructed through installations of his paintings, drawings and videos.

Miroslav Tichy: Pictures of Fair to Middling Women

Tichý, who was born in 1926 in the small Moravian village of Neteice, became mellower only towards the end of his life, no longer threatening curious visitors with his axe.He had already given up photography at the beginning of the 1990s. When the nephew of a childhood friend convinced him to stage his first exhibition, and the world has taken an interest in the old Samurai ever since.By 2006, the MMK Museum fur Moderne Kunst had managed to acquire a mixed lot of 80 photographs by Miroslav Tichý for its comprehensive photography collection. These were supplemented by two subsequent acquisitions and a donation in the years 2007 and 2008. The mixed lot of 85 photographs and four sketches is still the biggest groups of works by the Czech artist in a public collection. The portfolio of Petr Kozanek, containing eight portrait photos by Miroslav Tichý, perfectly complements the body of works by the artist in the MMK collection. This publication honors Tichy's achievements and gives a further insight into one of the biggest collections of international contemporary photography.English and German text.

On the philosophical margins of action and reaction and the texture of insinuation, pretense and fake, Jürgens discusses medial doctrines, their social maxims and trends in their ever-changing transformation of an osmosis between online-offline realities.
