Mythical Ireland embodies the search for a soul among Ireland's ancient ruins, and is an attempt to retrieve something of deeper import from 5,000-year-old megalithic monuments and their associated myths. The book represents a fascinating and engaging journey through time, landscape and the human spirit. Dealing with archaeology, interpretive mythography, cosmology and cosmogony, the book attempts to grapple with a core meaning, something beyond the functional interpretations of academia. In this revised and expanded edition, Anthony Murphy delves further into the many enthralling aspects of this journey. Just how much knowledge did locals have of the secrets of Newgrange before it was excav...

A Chaplain's Book Of Poems

These poems I write are a gift from God. I am only a scribe not the author, I know to many I’m odd. I don’t take credit for these incredible God-inspired poems. I’m hoping many will read them worldwide in their homes. God reveals some exciting concepts it seems every day. Many times when I start the poems I don’t know what He’ll say. But, as each poem starts to develop I get the idea. Then the meaning behind the poem becomes quite clear. Every day it seems there is another treasure in print. Sometimes I ask God what He wants me to write, or just give me a hint. Many times I get the idea — the poem was intended just for me. Other times, my poems hit home with you — I’m sure you’ll agree. In this time of unrest and turmoil we need God’s guidance it’s true. Sometimes without God’s guidance we wouldn’t know what to do. Thank God that He doesn’t change — His word is always true. So, study the Word, pray and talk to God, He loves to hear from you!

Legendary Ireland

This beautiful book visits twenty-eight richly atmospheric sites and tells the mythological stories associated with them. Woven into these landscapes are tales of love and betrayal, greed and courage, passion and revenge, featuring the famous characters of Celtic lore, such as Cú Chulainn, the children of Lír and Queen Maeve. The historical and archaeological facts and the folk traditions of each ancient site are explored. Some are famous, such as Tara and Newgrange; others are less well known but equally captivating such as the Béara Peninsula in Cork. In a world where many have lost touch with the land and their past, the legendary Irish landscape still survives and the stories are never quite over as long as there are people to tell them.

Karrikadjurren

Presenting a story of art and artists in Gunbalanya, western Arnhem Land between the years 2001 and 2005, this book explores the artistic community surrounding the primary place of art creation and sale in the region, Injalak Arts, an art centre established in the remote Aboriginal community of Gunbalanya. Using a variety of disciplinary approaches including archaeological analysis and material culture studies, anthropology, historical research, oral histories, and reflexive ethnography, the social context of art creation is explored. May argues that Injalak Arts as a place activates and draws together particular social groupings to form a sense of identity and community. It is the nature of...
