A concise, illustrated introduction of Steiner's life and work.
Given in 1916, when Europe was in the throes of World War I, these seven lectures present Rudolf Steiner's trenchant analysis of the malaise of our time. With wit and compassion, he vividly confronts us with the dead end to which materialism has brought modern civilization. Starting with a new look at the festival of Pentecost, Steiner shows how the chaos of his time "and ours "can be transcended by a shift or transformation of consciousness. Ranging over a wide variety of topics, he moves from a description of balance in life to a discussion of the twelve senses and their relationship to the cosmos, psychology, and art. In the process, he reveals the central importance of the development of Imagination. Contents: 1. The Immortality of the "I" 2. Blood and Nerves 3. The Twelve Human Senses 4. The Human Organism through the Incarnations 5. Balance in Life 6. The Feeling for Truth 7. Toward Imagination Seven lectures in Berlin, June 6 - July 18, 1916
12 lectures, Berlin, Oct. 23, 1909-Dec. 16, 1911 (CW 115) This series of lectures provides the basis for an entirely new psychology. The first four lectures give a precise, dynamic understanding of the human soul in relation to the activity of the senses and to the subtle processes that make up the human being on Earth. The next four lectures focus on what we can know of the human soul based on direct observation alone. No theorizing takes place. To show what we can know of soul life through the immediacy of engaged observation of oneself and others, Rudolf Steiner refrains from using his own higher capacities of clairvoyance to form a picture of our soul life. The concluding lectures portra...
Eternal becoming in thinking Every step a deepening Overcoming the surface Penetrating the depths." --Rudolf Steiner Much has been written by students of spiritual science on The Philosophy of Freedom, but the advantage of discovering what the author himself had to say about this most important and seminal work should be obvious. Not only were the words of the text chosen most carefully, but also its very structure was intended to become a powerful inner experience for the careful reader. In a sense, all of the works that flowed from Rudolf Steiner in the following years were to elaborate on this great work. At the age of twenty-seven, Rudolf Steiner "was beset by questions" related to outer...
Combining Lía Tummer’s lucid text and Lato’s creative and playful illustrations, Rudolf Steiner and Anthroposophy is a highly-engaging and unique ‘graphic’ introduction that is suitable for both the curious beginner and the dedicated student. At the dawn of the twentieth century, Rudolf Steiner presented anthroposophy as a ‘spiritual science’ that expanded upon the restricted, scientific–materialist ideology of his time. Based on a profound knowledge of human beings and our relationship with nature and the universe, anthroposophy not only provides rejuvenating impulses for the most diverse spheres of human activity – such as medicine, education, agriculture, art and science ...
These lectures -- the first on medicine by Rudolf Steiner -- outline the foundation for an anthroposophical approach to health and illness. Steiner begins with a discussion of various contemporary views of illness and pathology. He goes on to explore illnesses in relation to the whole human being, looking at the various processes and organs in relation to the human threefold organization. Homeopathy, naturopathy, and allopathy are discussed in the light of the spiritual nature of the human being and in terms of the ways various planets and the cosmos influence healing substances. On the whole, Steiner's approach rests on the long tradition of Western medicine without negating its roots. Perhaps more than anywhere else, Steiner's enthusiasm and familiarity with the subject is in evidence here. Steiner describes many specific illnesses and their treatments and how doctors must develop their ability to diagnose illnesses and prescribe treatments based on their own inner capacities.
"My life changed dramatically, drastically, and irrevocably on November 17, 2005. That was my death day and re-birthday. The external event was surgical removal of a glioblastoma multiforme tumor phase iv from the left occipital-parietal lobe of my cranium. Though I was unconscious during surgery, what I experienced was transcendent, like being turned inside out and hovering in timelessness, between this world and the life after life, and returning to here and now -- changed forever. What sounds like a cliché describes literally what I felt." (from the foreword) This generous, courageous, and wise book offers a selfless glimpse behind the curtain of a journey with cancer, from shock to inne...
Four of Rudolf Steiner's best-loved lectures are collected in this book. They are some of the most accessible presentations of the anthroposophic approach to life available in English. Included are: Practical Training in Thought Overcoming Nervousness Facing Karma The Four Temperaments The first lecture concerns the fundamental human activity of thinking. Everything we do, we do through thinking. The first task, then, is to realize the reality of thinking. To help us do this, Steiner gives exercises that will allow us to experience the cognitive, even clairvoyant, power of thinking. In "Overcoming Nervousness," Steiner shows us how exercises in thinking also give us the calm centered sense n...
