Community Relations and the Troubles in Northern Ireland
Community relations policy has been an almost permanent feature in Northern Ireland since 1969, yet it has rarely been considered as an object of study. This book provides historical depth to its analysis, by documenting the various manifestations of the notion of community relations in public policy during the Troubles period. Drawing on a variety of written and oral primary and secondary sources, it offers a unique, rich perspective on the meaning and intent behind community relations policy at certain critical junctures. In addition, by examining this period through the lens of one policy, the book sheds light on important questions such as who intervened in policy-making during the conflict, who sought to influence the process and, eventually, who took the decisions. It also considers the varied roles played by community workers. This meticulous analysis reveals previously unknown aspects of the evolution of community relations policy and presents a compelling micro-history of policy-making and governance during the Troubles in Northern Ireland.

An Intellectual History of Liberal Catholicism in Western Europe, 1789-1870
This volume probes and deciphers the tensions and contradictions that underlie modern European Liberal Catholicism. Beginning with the French revolution and looking at dialogues between European 'public moralists', the book discusses the ways in which liberal Catholics loosened their bonds with religion, all the while relying on it. It reflects on how and why they promoted a post-revolutionary state and society based on religious dogma and morality, and what new liberal order and socio-political and religious models they proposed. Beyond the analysis of the work of these Catholic intellectuals, the question of their conceiving a specific liberal approach through Catholicism is also investigated. More generally, it prompts a vital reappraisal of the political, ideological and philosophical pressures that the religious question caused in the redefinition of Western European post-revolutionary liberalism.

De nombreux philosophes et theologiens contemporains de Hobbes l'ont du reste percue comme un immense et insupportable scandale . Cependant, bien souvent, ils y ont vu aussi une these veritablement centrale de la philosophie de Hobbes, alors que de nombreux interpretes ulterieurs, encore aujourd'hui, ont ete tentes de la renvoyer plutot a ses marges. Jean Calvin et Thomas Hobbes n'ont jamais été clairement associés ailleurs que dans la célèbre série humoristique Calvin & Hobbes. Dans l'histoire de la pensée politique, la confrontation du Réformateur français et du philosophe anglais est peu commentée. Pourtant, ces deux grandes figures des XVIe et XVIIe siècles participent d'un même effort de repenser le politique après les ruptures de la modernité.
