National Identities and European Literatures
This volume of essays focuses on the configuration and the crisis of national and cultural identities in modern and contemporary Europe. Renowned contributors address the question of identity from various theoretical frames (Eagleton, Honneth, Bourdieu). Anàlisi històrica de la identitat catalana és una obra col·lectiva de recerca històrica que renova la visió del sorgiment de la identitat catalana a l’edat mitjana a partir de vectors com la convergència de trets socioeconòmics, la percepció externa, el desenvolupament institucional i la representativitat política; ressegueix l’adaptació i les expressions d’aquesta identitat sota els canvis dels segles XVI-XVIII; analitza l’adequació, represa i formulació de la identitat catalana dins de l’Espanya contemporània fins a la fi del franquisme, i atén la funció transmissora d’uns eixos transversals al llarg del temps com poden ser la llengua, el dret i l’art. Es tracta d’una publicació emparada per l’Institut d’Estudis Catalans, fruit d’un projecte de recerca europeu de l’European Science Foundation (ESF) i desenvolupat per quatre grups de recerca reconeguts amb la màxima qualificació científica com a grups de recerca consolidats i finançats per l’Agència de Gestió d’Ajuts Universitaris i de Recerca (AGAUR).
The Antiquarians of the Nation
In the nineteenth century, the search for the artistic, architectural and written monuments promoted by the French State with the aim to build a unified nation transcending regional specificities, also fostered the development of local or regional identitary consciousness. In Roussillon, this distinctive consciousness relied on a basically cultural concept of nation epitomised mainly by the Catalan language – Roussillon being composed of Catalan counties annexed to France in 1659. In The Antiquarians of the Nation, Francesca Zantedeschi explores how the works of Roussillon's archaeologists and philologists, who retrieved and enhanced the Catalan specificities of the region, contributed to the early stages of a ‘national’ (Catalan) cultural revival, and galvanised the implicit debate between (French) national history and incipient regional studies.
