Dr. Archibald Simpson Anderson, Archie, a newly graduated doctor in Melbourne, was filled with the determination of service for Queen and country in the early years of WW1. His elder brother, also a doctor, had preceded him into the Light Horse. When Lord Kitchener called to the Australian medical fraternity with the dire need of 'Mother England' for doctors at the front, Archie responded immediately along with 112 other Australian doctors. His two volume diary covers his sea voyage to England, his early training with the RAMC in camps in England, service in France and lastly his experience with the Indian Meerut Division in the British relief of Kut. This formative experience is detailed in his recently published post-war novel Dusty doings: with the Indians to Baghdad. His writing reveals a man of faith, dedication, humility and humour. He loved his family, friends and fiancé, writing to all with tireless regularity.
