This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Numerical Analysis and Its Applications, NAA 2008, held in Lozenetz, Bulgaria in June 2008. The 61 revised full papers presented together with 13 invited papers were carefully selected during two rounds of reviewing and improvement. The papers address all current aspects of numerical analysis and discuss a wide range of problems concerning recent achievements in physics, chemistry, engineering, and economics. This monograph consists of investigation results obtained on the new theoretically well-grounded method for the total set of the compatible material constants for different piezoceramics. With this aim, there were carried out theoretical and experimental analysis, and various oscillation modes of electroelastic bars and plates were identified. Moreover, the physical and geometrical restrictions on the sample form were stated by using modified method of definition of the piezomodule d33 in quasistatic regime. The Karamazov Correspondence: Letters of Vladimir S. Soloviev represents the first fully annotated and chronologically arranged collection of the Russian philosopher-poet’s most important letters, the vast majority of which have never before been translated into English. Soloviev was widely known for his close association with Fyodor M. Dostoevsky in the final years of the novelist’s life, and these letters reflect many of the qualities and contradictions that also personify the title characters of Dostoevsky’s last and greatest novel, The Brothers Karamazov. In 1921, Sergei Prokofiev's Love for Three Oranges—one of the earliest, most famous examples of modernist opera—premiered in Chicago. Prokofiev's source was a 1913 theatrical divertissement by Vsevolod Meyerhold, who, in turn, took inspiration from Carlo Gozzi's 1761 commedia dell'arte–infused theatrical fairy tale. Only by examining these whimsical, provocative works together can we understand the full significance of their intertwined lineage. With contributions from 17 distinguished scholars in theater, art history, Italian, Slavic studies, and musicology, Three Loves for Three Oranges: Gozzi, Meyerhold, Prokofiev illuminates the historical development of Modernism in the arts, the ways in which commedia dell'arte's self-referential and improvisatory elements have inspired theater and music innovations, and how polemical playfulness informs creation.
