Biogenic Nanomaterials for Environmental Sustainability: Principles, Practices, and Opportunities

Environmental pollution is a worldwide concern now. A major section of the world population is struggling for drinking water. Polluted soil is resulting into low agricultural productivity and thus creating challenges in the way of sustainable livelihood of a large section of human population. Biological treatment can offer both green solutions for wastewater treatment and resource recovery as well. Like algal-based systems can be utilized for wastewater treatment and production of biofuels from the biomass grown on the wastewater. The funny, moving rags-to-riches story of a little village boy. Lala is eleven when he resolves to go to the great city Bombay to aid his parents, who are desperately poor, and to buy his father the plot of land which he has been tilling for years as a tenant. Lala's dream is simple: he wants to create a little world of honest and rewarding work so that his family can live without fear. But this simple dream is not easy to realize, and at each stage lie new and bigger challenges for the little boy. From his first sight of a market in Benaras to his first train ride, from his encounters with the Great City to his life as a fisherman where he takes on the might of the ocean, Lala's days are marked by hardship and misadventure, but also by love, friendship and humour. And he never lets go of his dream & This is the true story of a boy whom Scapagnini met on his annual trip to India. Simply told but full of rich wisdom, this is an eternal story which carries at its core an irresistible joy of existence.

Statistical Methods

The Preface Elucidates That The Text Is Designed For Degree Courses In India. However, I Imagine That It Could Play A Useful Role For Those In Britain. It Is Mainly Intended As An Introductory Text For Those Studying Social Sciences And Economics. Individuals From Other Disciplines Would, No Doubt, Still Find It Useful As A General Reference. The Chapters Are Well Written And Easy To Follow. An Appealing Feature Of The Book Is That Much Emphasis Is Placed On The Understanding And Application Of Statistical Methods. There Is Avoidance Of Excessive Presentation Of Formulae. For These Reasons Alone I Think That Students Will Find The Text Attractive. Each Chapter Finishes With A Series Of Well-Formulated Questions, Which Test The Readers' Understanding. The Two Chapters On Statistical Inference And Tests Of Significance Are Excellent. It Is A Comprehensive And Interesting Text, One That I Think Most Students Would Find Useful. Indeed, It Is An Useful Addition To My Library, Having Already Referred To It Often. The Statistician, London, Vol. 45, No. 3 (1996).
