Tratado latinoamericano de sociología
Este libro presenta una exposición sistemática del estado del arte de la sociología de acuerdo con una división temática de la misma, en cuyo desarrollo se exponen las diferentes corrientes, sus semejanzas y diferencias, así como los conceptos principales de cada perspectiva. En este libro se exponen las nuevas perspectivas teóricas en algunas de las más importantes subdisciplinas de la Sociología, sobre todo las de aquellas que parten de las crisis paradigmáticas de fines de los setenta y principios de los ochenta. Su enfoque es desde los problemas sociales de América Latina. Cada capítulo y tema planteado comprende tres partes: la primera, expone las teorías actuales más importantes sobre la temática a nivel internacional; la segunda, se centra en América Latina; la tercera, presenta los resultados de la investigación empírica, así como algunas reflexiones acerca del desarrollo de líneas de investigación necesarias; y se concluye con una bibliografía extensa y actualizada.

The previous edition of this directory extended its coverage of the Far East, Australasia and Latin America, areas previously under-represented. For this new edition emphasis has been given to increasing the number of entries for organizations from Britain, the United States and Australia, and particular attention has been paid to new political organizations in Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. The number of entries included has gone up to over 68,000 of which over 9,000 are new or amended. World Guide to Abbreviations of Organizations
This edition of well over 50,000 entries not only updates its predecessor but considerably increases the coverage of Latin America and Eastern Europe. I have been aided in this work by two colleagues at Glasgow University Library, Dr Lloyd Davies and Barbara MacMillan, and in general revision by Kate Richard. Close on 20% of the text has been altered. The equivalences, introduced into the last edition, linking acronyms in different languages for the same organization, have been extended. Social Justice and Gender Equality
The contributors to this edited volume explore the effects of various development strategies and associated macroeconomic policies on women’s well-being and progress towards gender equality. Detailed analyses of major UN reports on gender reveal the different approaches to assessing absolute and relative progress for women and the need to take into account the specifics of policy regimes when making such assessments. The book argues that neoliberal policies, especially the liberalization of trade and investment, make it difficult to close gender wage and earnings gaps, and new gender sensitive policies need to be devised. These and other issues are all examined in more detail in several gendered development histories of countries from Latin America and Asia.
