When Philip falls in love with her, his mother does all she can to prevent the marriage. This is book 3 of 16 in The Whiteoak Chronicles. It is followed by Young Renny.

Excerpt from Mary Wakefield: A Memoir In writing this account of Mary Wakefield I have kept two main objects in view: first to leave, not only for her many friends, but for those to whom She can never be more than a name, some intimate recollection of her work and personality; secondly to vindicate her claim to be regarded as the originator of the Competition Festival movement. While writing the book, I have been increasingly impressed by the conviction that a life so fully and intensely lived, and so scantily recorded in journals and letters, could only have been satisfactorily dealt with in the form of an autobiography. I den tredje boken i Jalnaserien är kapten Whiteoak död, och Adelines yngste son, änkemannen Philip, har tagit över Jalna. Till Adelines stora förtret har Augusta gift sig för en titel och står därför över sin mamma i samhällets ögon.
