Emissions from European Agriculture
The time when agricultural production activities were considered neutral to the environment has definitely passed. For last 25 years there has been growing scientific evidence on the potentially deteriorating effect of ammonia released in the process of agricultural production on the environment. In the last 15 years additional focus has been given to environmental and health impact of dust and VOC’s generated by farming activities. Only very recently is the contribution of agricultural production GHG’s to global warming recognised. In the book the various aspects of agricultural emissions are discussed. Its first part refers mainly to introductory, theoretical, and methodological issues. The second part gives the most recent data on national emissions, particularly these of Nitrogen species in selected individual European countries and the projections of their emission for all Europe. The third part which deals exclusively with ammonia brings comprehensive survey of its emission abatement potentials, the cost of appropriate actions and the difficulties in their practical implementation. It also considers the potential side effects of ammonia emission abatement measures.

The Reception and Transmission of Civil Procedural Law in the Global Society
In modern times, the civil procedural laws of every country have been influenced by those of other countries. For instance, the Japanese legal system was itself influenced by Chinese culture and later developed independently under the policy of national isolation. And since 1868, Japan has modernized its civil procedural law, using French, German, and American law as its models. Japan has recently tried to contribute by way of legislative and legal educational assistance to other Asian countries (Vietnam, Cambodia, etc.) in civil and procedural law. The civil procedural laws of different countries should be expected to harmonize with each other in the global society. This book is the outcome of the Congress of the International Association of Procedural Law at the Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto, Japan. In this book, various outstanding contributors are treating a contemporary legal problem in their own civil procedural systems, including examples from India, the Netherlands, Korea, Italy, China, Japan, etc.

The Integrity of the Judge
There is no consensus among legal scholars on the meaning of judicial integrity, nor has legal scholarship yet seen a well-articulated discussion about the normative concept of judicial integrity. This book makes an analysis of the discourses on judicial integrity in judiciaries in both established and developing democracies. In the former, the rule of law is well-developed and trust in the judges is high, yet new demands for accountability emerge. In the latter, traditional integrity problems such as fraud and corruption take centre stage. The author argues that integrity must be understood both as professional virtue -discussed here through the lens of virtue ethical theory - and as the safeguarding of public trust, as understood through institutional theory. The Integrity of the Judge is a significant new work for legal theorists and philosophers, as well as scholars of legal and judicial ethics.

National Judges as EU law Judges: The Polish Civil Law System by Urszula Jaremba aims at filling a research gap in one of the key areas of EU law concerning its enforcement at the national level and the phenomenon of judicial behaviour. More precisely, it examines the way civil judges in Poland function as EU law judges, and the practical problems they encounter while striving to actualise this constitutive role. However, the book goes beyond the formal law scenario, and investigates how Polish civil judges establish their own understanding of EU law and the new requirements it has imposed upon them. To this end, the study employs an empirical − that is to say quantitative and qualitative − methodology and theory to result in a socio-legal study that combines legal and empirical insights into the way national judges function in the context of EU law.
