The Woodhouse Mystery

A cold case comes back to haunt the small town of Valley-Wood. We follow the life of Brendan Gibbons who returns to reconnect with old friends. The townsfolk live a life of quiet effort until it is upturned by outsiders and innuendo. Secrets are being unveiled and catastrophic events lead to a mysterious death that adds a layer of fear and tension. At the foot of the town rests The Woodhouse Lodge on the bank of the fast-flowing Nugget River. The Lodge is a magnet with rafters from the city for the thrill of running white-water rapids. Tangled relationships thread their way through the ever-changing realignments of loyalties. Vivid characters reveal the truth as strange happenings tear the fabric of old friendships. It's a drifting tale of suspenseful moments with no sure footing, until strength and hope shimmer on the horizon.

Blake is heading back to college after just a few days of his Christmas vacation at home. He and his father have once again argued over Blake's taking the next three years to finish his college education before going on a mission for their Church. Roger delayed his Holiday visit with his parents. He hadn't seen them in almost two years. When he does arrive home in New York City, he finds his father drunk and his mother high on drugs. He too returns early to the university. Blake and Roger are roommates and as they finish their second year at a prominent university of technology, they must choose a project and build a prototype of an innovative vehicle suitable for the future. It must be done by the end of the next quarter. Blake has an idea as to how a vehicle just might be able to cross the Universe in the blink of an eye, but can Roger figure out the mechanics. As a result of this project, both Blake and Roger discover their destinies. Join these two young men as they realize what, to them individually, is the most important thing in the Universe.

A jewel of modern Norwegian literature now hailed as Lars Saabye Christensen's crowning achievement - an intricate and utterly compelling narrative. "With its tonal nuance and quietly amusing melancholy, Echoes of the City confirms him as one of Norway's finest writers" Guardian "[A] profoundly resonant novel" T.L.S. Christensen is one of Scandinavia's finest and most celebrated storytellers, who has devoted the best part of his career to writing about the city of his birth. As Oslo slowly emerges from a period of crippling austerity, Echoes of the City shows how small, almost imperceptible acts of kindness and compassion, and tiny shifts in fortune, can change the lives of many. At the cent...
