James B. Donovan (1916-70) was an intrepid lawyer and a skillful negotiator. In his defence of unpopular causes he has been likened to Thomas Erskine, who represented Thomas Paine during the French Revolution and Harold Medina, who defended an accused accomplice of Nazi saboteurs during World War II. His courage was apparent in facing down demonstrators, hecklers, racists, and pickets, and in dealing with calculating Russian agents, hostile Cuban officers, and angry students, writes Phil Bigger, in this exciting tale of Donovan's life.
HIS book grew out of suggestions from the Publications Com T mittee of the American Physiological Society, which has planned a series covering the development of ideas about a number of areas of physiology. This was prompted by the great success of Circulation of the Blood: Men and Ideas, edited by A. P. Fishman and D. W. Richards, which was originally published in 1964 and then reissued by the Society in 1982. Three companion books are being completed in conjunction with the centennial year of the American Physiolog ical Society: this volume on endocrinology, one on the kidney, and one on membrane transport. It was our purpose not to provide a complete bibliography or a complete listing of ...

Organometallic chemistry is an interdisciplinary science which continues to grow at a rapid pace. Although there is continued interest in synthetic and structural studies the last decade has seen a growing interest in the potential of organometallic chemistry to provide answers to problems in catalysis synthetic organic chemistry and also in the development of new materials. This Specialist Periodical Report aims to reflect these current interests reviewing progress in theoretical organometallic chemistry, main group chemistry, the lanthanides and all aspects of transition metal chemistry. Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage of progress in the major ...

Reproduction in Domestic Animals, Second Edition discusses the chemistry of gonadotropins and biochemistry of the gonadal hormones. The book presents the immunological characterization of the gonadotropins and the regulation of the secretion of pituitary gonadotropins by the nervous system. The text describes the physiology of reproduction and then discusses the effects of hormones on the development and differentiation of the brain. Another topic of interest is the formation of preovulatory follicles. The section that follows describes the necessity of quantitative female gametes production. The book will provide valuable insights for biologists, zoologists, students, and researchers in the field of animal reproduction.
