Folklor ve halk edebiyatı ürünlerinin modern sanatta yeniden yorumlandığı veya onlardan istifadeyle yeni eserler verildiği bilinmektedir. Milli edebiyat akımıyla birlikte folklor ve halk edebiyatı ürünleri, modern edebiyatın ham maddesi olarak görülmeye başlamıştır. Ziya Gökalp’ın “tehzip” fikri bu yaklaşımın sistematize edilmiş halinden başka bir şey değildir. Türk halk edebiyatının önemli bir türü olan halk hikâyeleri de bu şekilde değerlendirilmiş; roman tiyatro, opera, revü ve hatta sinema eseri olarak yeniden yazılmıştır. Türkiye’de durum böyleyken hikâyenin çok sevilerek anlatıldığı Azerbaycan’da da benzer bir durum dikkati çekmektedir.
