Catch and Effort Data from a Sample Survey of Charterboat Captains in the Southeastern United States, 1985
During 1985, a sample survey of the marine recreational catch and effort of charterboats in the southeastern United States was Conducted by personnel of the National Marine Fisheries Service, Southeast Fisheries Center, Panama city Laboratory (NMFS-PC). The 1985 survey was an annual extension of techniques developed in 1982 (Brusher, Williamsy Trent,, and Palko. 1984. Mar. Fish. Rev. (46)3:8 p.). The purpose of this report is to make the detailed 1985 catch and effort records available. These data, like those recorded from 1982 through 1984,, are available through NMFS-PC.
An Evaluation of Hard Parts for Age Determination of Pompano (Trachinotus Carolinus), Ladyfish (Elops Saurus), Crevalle Jack (Caranx Hippos), Gulf Flounder (Paralichthys Albigutta), and Southern Flounder (Paralichthys Lethostigma)
An evaluation of marks on scales, otoliths, vertebrae, and dorsal and anal fin rays for age determination of pompano, ladyfish, crevalle jack, gulf flounder, and southern flounder was performed. Otoliths were selected as the most suitable age-determination structure. Otolith radii and marks had high positive correlations with fork lengths for pompano, ladyfish, and crevalle jack, and with total length for gulf flounder and southern flounder.
