Contacts and Contrasts in Cultures and Languages
This volume provides descriptions and interpretations of social and cognitive phenomena as well as processes that emerge at the interface of languages and cultures in the context of contrastive and contact linguistics and media discourse. Different contexts are explored with rich empirical findings and authentic exemplifying materials. The book includes fifteen papers, divided into three parts. Part 1 addresses conceptual reflection on languages and cultures in contact and contrast, while Part 2 focuses on contact linguistics and borrowing. Part 3 discusses cultural and linguistic aspects of media discourses.
Cognitive Approaches to Language and Linguistic Data
The volume presents over 30 contributions by leading European and American linguists presented to Professor Barbara Lewandowska-Tomaszczyk, an eminent Polish linguist, in recognition of her contribution to the science of language. Papers contained in the volume reflect the many ways in which cognitive linguistics has affected such areas of linguistic research as: semantics, pragmatics, discourse analysis, applied linguistics, and corpus and computer linguistics. A number of contributors, including R. Langacker, deal with current issues and developments in cognitive linguistics.

Conflict, Mediated Message, and Group Dynamics
Conflict, Mediated Message, and Group Dynamics: Intersections of Communication establishes up a framework to explore the ways in which emotions enter a conflict scenario and investigate their role either as causes or consequences of conflict. The volume's chapters shed new light on the questions of the extent to which context on the one hand and culture-related dimensions on the other are conducive to conflict dynamicity and management either by calming emotions—and conflict—or by increasing their severity.
Cognitive Perspectives on Language
The papers collected in the present volume show that the terms cognitivism and cognitive, so common in present day linguistic discourse, do not refer to a single theoretical mode or approach to language. Firstly, the papers show that cognitivism is a lively research area accommodating a wide spectrum of approaches. Secondly, they address a number of issues ranging from grammaticalization, event structure, semantic representation, equivalence, image schematic representations and lexicography to poetry, metaphor, metonymy, and national mentality. Some of the contributions deal with the linguistic phenomena in one language, while others take up a cross-linguistic approach.
