Transformation von Ungleichheitsregimes
Bernhard Leubolt arbeitet mittels des strategisch-relationalen Institutionalismus den historischen Einfluss von Ungleichheitsregimes auf aktuelle gleichheitsorientierte Politik heraus: Brasilien ist geprägt von der langen Fortdauer der Sklaverei und einer anschließenden konservativen Modernisierung. Seit den 1980er Jahren gibt es Bestrebungen zur Reduktion der Ungleichheiten, die durch neoliberale Reformen konterkariert wurden. Nach der Amtsübernahme Präsident Lulas wurde statt des Neoliberalismus ein sozialer Entwicklungsstaat etabliert. Südafrika wurde hingegen durch ein formell rassistisches Ungleichheitsregime geprägt. Nach der Demokratisierung etablierte sich mit dem ANC die wichtigste Widerstandsbewegung als Regierungspartei. Er beseitigte zwar staatlichen Rassismus, konnte die hohen Ungleichheitsraten aber kaum reduzieren. Im Fazit verweist Leubolt auf Erfolge und Widersprüche gleichheitsorientierter Politik.

As opposed to it, countries that, in the course of history, have always been categorized as part of the developing world, have indeed in the last decades experienced a rapid economic development. In 2001 Goldman Sachs’ collaborator Jim O’Neill grouped these countries under the Acronym of BRIC, which stands for Brazil, China, India and Russia. Eventually the name became BRICS including South Africa among those countries.
