O Lorde
New Zealand teenager Ella Yelich-O’Connor went from obscurity to fame and fortune as Lorde in less than 18 months. Ella was not a conventional child. “I went to a lot of David Lynch films, I read a lot of strange books, I loved to go to the museum all day. I was that kid.” Ella liked reading short stories and one of her favorite authors was American Kurt Vonnegut. Journalist Bernie Dowling has compiled quotes from Lorde and Vonnegut to tell her story in their own words Also included is Dowling’s entertaining account of the rise of Lorde. ‘I was in a cab home in NYC and Royals came on and I laughed and the driver asked why and I told him it was my song and he said ‘Mine, too.’
Serendipity
ON behalf of the Writers Anthology Group, based in the Pine Rivers district of Australia, I present our 2013 anthology, Serendipity. This anthology follows three critically acclaimed volumes published by Bent Banana Books in conjunction with the Arts Alliance Pine Rivers. These anthologies were The Writing on the Wall (2010) Can You Believe It (2011) and Sweet and Sour (2012) Again we have short stories and poetry, illustrated by local artists, this year introducing photography. As with previous anthologies, the title is thematic of the contents. This year the challenge was to work with one word, not in common use: serendipity. 7 Shouts
How did U.S. President Barack Obama get so familiar with Australian slang and culture? Perhaps he read Bernie Dowling’s 7 Shouts. Sweet and Sour is the third anthology from the writers of Moreton Bay Region of Australia. Each story is illustrated by an artist of the region. The stories cover styles from humor, mystery and thrillers as their authors cleverly unveil layers of the modern world.

The Writers Anthology Group, based in Pine Rivers, Australia, presents the 2019 anthology, From the Edge. This is the eighth anthology in the series begun by the Arts Alliance Pine Rivers in conjunction with WAG. This edition includes a retrospective. Along with more than 20 new stories and poems, included are at least one story from each of our previous volumes. The full complement of WAG editors is back with past editors Anne Olsson and Lorraine Noscova providing retrospective stories.
