Dynamic Worlds
Reasoning is an integral part of intelligent systems in fields like databases, logic programming, robotics, knowledge engineering, human/computer interfaces, programming environments, etc. In reality any such system has to cope with a changing world and its dynamics. Hence it is of great importance that reasoning must account for coping with change in order to be truly useful in practice. The book comprises several contributions to current ways of approaching this problem. On the one hand it surveys and synthesizes recent research work, while on the other hand new research results are included. Among the topics treated are logics for reasoning about actions and planning, belief revision and the reconciliation of logically conflicting inputs, resolving of conflicts by merging of knowledge and issues in the evolution in object-oriented databases. The book is aimed at the researcher and advanced student active in this field.

KI-97: Advances in Artificial Intelligence
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 21st Annual German Conference on Artificial Intelligence, KI-97, held in Freiburg, Germany, in September 1997. The volume presents revised versions of 26 full papers and 10 posters selected from around 70 submissions from more than 15 countries. Also included are three excellent invited contributions by Anthony G. Cohn, Kurt Konolige, and Pat Langley. Logic Programming and Automated Reasoning
LPAR is an international conference series aimed at bringing together researchers interested in logic programming and automated reasoning. The research in logic programming grew out of the research in automated reasoning in the early 1970s. Later, the implementation techniques known from logic programming were used in implementing theorem proving systems. Results from both fields applied to deductive databases. This volume contains the proceedings of LPAR '93, which was organized by the Russian Association for Logic Programming. The volume contains 35 contributed papers selected from 84 submissions, together with an invited paper by Peter Wegner entitled "Reasoning versus modeling in computer science".
Theorem Proving with Analytic Tableaux and Related Methods
This books presents the refereed proceedings of the Fifth International Workshop on Analytic Tableaux and Related Methods, TABLEAUX '96, held in Terrasini near Palermo, Italy, in May 1996. The 18 full revised papers included together with two invited papers present state-of-the-art results in this dynamic area of research. Besides more traditional aspects of tableaux reasoning, the collection also contains several papers dealing with other approaches to automated reasoning. The spectrum of logics dealt with covers several nonclassical logics, including modal, intuitionistic, many-valued, temporal and linear logic.
Intellectics and Computational Logic
`Intellectics' seeks to understand the functions, structure and operation of the human intellect and to test artificial systems to see the extent to which they can substitute or complement such functions. The word itself was introduced in the early 1980s by Wolfgang Bibel to describe the united fields of artificial intelligence and cognitive science. The book collects papers by distinguished researchers, colleagues and former students of Bibel's, all of whom have worked together with him, and who present their work to him here to mark his 60th birthday. The papers discuss significant issues in intellectics and computational logic, ranging across automated deduction, logic programming, the logic-based approach to intellectics, cognitive robotics, knowledge representation and reasoning. European Workshop on Planning
Planning - formulating a course of action - and related fields like scheduling or reasoning about action have a long research tradition in artificial intelligence. However, there seems to have been a communications problem among European planners, with many of them unaware of good work done in neighboring countries. This volume contains ten papers presented at the European Workshop on Planning held in Sankt Augustin, Germany, March 1991. The purpose of the workshop was to provide a forum for presenting work in planning and related areas done by European researchers. The papers provide a snapshot of planning research at present being done in Europe. They describe work in the areas of plan generation, logical approaches to planning, planning under uncertainty, planning with time, and semantics of plans.
