Role of Women Parliamentarians in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals in India

This book analyses the systematic and procedural issues that are faced by women in the Parliament and brings to light the systematic ignorance of certain issues supported by data on the Parliamentary Debates, Question Hours and functioning of Parliamentary Committees. Combining these technical issues with substantive legal arguments in favour of gender mainstreaming, this book acts as a tool of strategic advantage for policymakers, legislators, advocates and researchers. This work unearths not only the problem areas of the research theme, but also dedicates a solution which relies on effective monitoring techniques used globally, specifically to achieve the SDGs in the field of Nutrition, Family Planning and Sexual and Reproductive Health.

This volume presents an integrated collection of essays around the theme of India’s failure to grapple with the big questions of human rights protections affecting marginalized minority groups in the country’s recent rush to modernization. The book traverses a broad range of rights violations from: gender equality to sexual orientation, from judicial review of national security law to national security concerns, from water rights to forest rights of those in need, and from the persecution of Muslims in Gulberg to India’s parallel legal system of Lok Adalats to resolve disputes. It calls into question India’s claim to be a contemporary liberal democracy. The thesis is given added stre...

Yoga—A Gem For Women (Third thoroughly revised edition, 2019), Reprint 2022

YOGA is considered uniquely instrumental in the search for self realisation, and through it the realisation of God. The author, who has mastered the subtle techniques of this art, has presented it in book form, showing a variety of āsanas known for their physical and curative values, Prānāyāma with its Bandhas and Dhyāna or meditation. The āsanas in the book are divided into various sections dealing with simple standing positions, forward bends, lateral movements backward extensions of the spine, correct breathing techniques during the performance of the āsanas and also the effects of the āsanas on the body, nerves and mind. The author has included simple steps for advancing from a purely physical plane to a higher level of consciousness. Almost all the illustrations in the book are her own.

This book explores the development of humanoid robots for helping children with autism develop social skills based on fieldwork in the UK and the USA. Robotic scientists propose that robots can therapeutically help children with autism because there is a “special” affinity between them and mechanical things. This idea is supported by autism experts that claim those with autism have a preference for things over other persons. Autism is also seen as a gendered condition, with men considered less social and therefore more likely to have the condition. The author explores how these experiments in cultivating social skills in children with autism using robots, while focused on a unique subsection, is the model for a new kind of human-thing relationship for wider society across the capitalist world where machines can take on the role of the “you” in the relational encounter. Moreover, underscoring this is a form of consciousness that arises out of specific forms of attachment styles.
