Current discoveries and research into bioactive natural products Medicinal Chemistry of Bioactive Natural Products provides a much-needed survey of bioactive natural products and their applications in medicinal chemistry. This comprehensive reference features articles by some of the world's leading scientists in the field on discovery, structure elucidation, and elegant synthetic strategies--developed for natural products--with an emphasis on the structure activity relationship of bioactive natural products. The topics have been carefully chosen on the basis of relevance to current research and to importance as clinicially useful agents. Rather than attempting to be a comprehensive encyclope...

This book is written for B.Sc., B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc., students. The subject is presented in a very systematic manner. Simple language is used, diagrams/ illustrations are generously used to emphasise reaction. Sites, to indicate reaction pathways. Emphasis is placed on the correlation of the structure of functional group with its properties. A detailed molecular orbital and valance bond interpretation of the structure of each functional group is given. This enable the student to predict the properties of the functional group. Fundamental principles of energetics, reaction rates and stereochemistry are provided to lay a strong foundation. Mechanisms are described in a step by step manner. Contents: Alkaloids, Stereochemistry of the Cinchona Alkaloids, Isoquinoline Group, Biosynthesis of Alkaloids.
Applied genetic research, genetic toxicology and mutation research investigate the mutagenicity and cancerogenicity of chemicals and other agents. Permanent mutation in genes and chromosomes, can be induced by aplethora of agents, including ionizing and nonionizing radiations, chemicals, and viruses. Among the aspects discused by Advances in Mutagenesis Research are (1) the understanding of the molecular mechanisms leading to mutations, and (2) the prevention of a thoughtless introduction of mutagenic agents into the environment. Contents: Nikolay W. Timofeeff-Ressovsky (1900-1981): An Essay on his Life and Scientific Achievements. - Arylnitrenium Ions and the Genotoxic Potency of Aromatic A...
The problem of the minimum induced drag of wings having a given lift and a given span is extended to include cases in which the bending moment to be supported by the wing is also given. Expressions for the spanwise load distribution and the minimum drag in terms of the lateral position of the load centroid are given. The results show a 15-percent reduction of the induced drag with a 15-percent increase in span over that for an elliptic loading having the same total lift and bending moment.
