Progress in Heterocyclic Chemistry (PHC) is an annual review series commissioned by the International Society of Heterocyclic Chemistry (ISHC). The volumes in the series contain both highlights of the previous year's literature on heterocyclic chemistry and articles on new developing topics of interest to heterocyclic chemists. The highlight chapters in Volume 10 are all written by leading researchers in their field and these chapters constitute a systematic survey of the important original material reported in the literature on heterocyclic chemistry in 1997. Additional articles in this volume also review "The Synthesis of Chlorins, Bacteriochlorins, Isobacteriochlorins" and "Higher Reduced Porphyrins and Heterocyclic ortho-Quinodimethanes". As with previous volumes in the series, Volume 10 will enable academic and industrial chemistry and advanced students to keep abreast of developments in heterocyclic chemistry in an effortless way.

Reactive Intermediates

The field of reactive intermediates has been blossoming at a rapid rate in recent years and its impact on chemistry, both "pure" and "applied," as well as on biology, astronomy, and other areas of science, is enormous. Several books have been published which cover the area; one, edited by McManus, * surveys the subject in general at the senior undergraduate or beginning graduate level. In addition, a number of monographs have appeared which deal with individual topics such as carbenes, nitrenes, free radicals, carbanions, carbenium ions, and so on, in great depth. Our objective is somewhat different. We hope that these Advances in . . . type of volumes will appear at irregular intervals of a...

Azides and Nitrenes: Reactivity and Utility provides information pertinent to the fundamentals aspects of the chemistry of azides and nitrenes. This book discusses the mechanism and synthetic applications of alkyl azides. Organized into 10 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the properties and chemistry of alkyl azides and alkylnitrenes. This text then examines the various pathways to the preparation of vinyl azides. Other chapters consider the magnetic resonance spectrum of phenyl azide, which may be taken as a representative to which more complex examples can be related. This book discusses as well the acyl azides and acylnitrenes that have their nitrogen function attached to electron-withdrawing groups not possessing a heteroatom bearing an unshared electron pair next to the nitrogen function. The final chapter deals with the main uses for organic azides involved in photochemical cross-linking of polymeric systems. This book is a valuable resource for chemists, spectroscopists, and theoreticians.

XXIIIrd International Congress of Pure and Applied Chemistry, Volume 4 contains papers presented at the XXIIIrd International Congress of Pure and Applied Chemistry held in Boston, USA on July 26-30, 1971. This book is organized into two main topics—short-lived intermediates, free radicals and homolytic mechanisms, and ion pair processes. This publication specifically discusses the chemically induced dynamic nuclear polarization, formation of radical anions by the attack of radicals upon anions, and high temperature organic reactions by flash vacuum pyrolysis. The structure-reactivity relationships in the chemistry of aliphatic free radicals, medium effects on radical-radical reactions, and oxidation of alkyl radicals by metal complexes are also described. This text likewise considers the end group association and complexation in anionic polymerization and reversal of singlet and triplet states in aromatic dianions with trigonal symmetry. This compilation is useful to chemists and specialists researching on pure and applied chemistry.

Small Ring Heterocycles, Volume 42, Part 1

The Chemistry of Heterocyclic Compounds, since its inception, has been recognized as a cornerstone of heterocyclic chemistry. Each volume attempts to discuss all aspects – properties, synthesis, reactions, physiological and industrial significance – of a specific ring system. To keep the series up-to-date, supplementary volumes covering the recent literature on each individual ring system have been published. Many ring systems (such as pyridines and oxazoles) are treated in distinct books, each consisting of separate volumes or parts dealing with different individual topics. With all authors are recognized authorities, the Chemistry of Heterocyclic Chemistry is considered worldwide as the indispensable resource for organic, bioorganic, and medicinal chemists.

Imidazole and Benzimidazole Synthesis

Imidazole and Benzimidazole Synthesis is a comprehensive survey of the known methods of syntheses and ring modification. It brings together the multitude of synthesis of the imidazole ring in a systemic way interms of specific bond formation, and recommends the most attractive synthetic approaches. It also collects non-ring-synthetic approaches to classes of compounds such as nitro-, halogeno-, and amino-imidazoles, and covers the synthesis of N-substituted compounds and preparations of specific isomers. The only book in print dealing specifically with this topic Comprehensive survey of the known methods of synthesis and ring modification Recommends the most attractive synthetic approaches
