A obra Sociologia ambiental: possibilidades epistêmicas e realidades complexas, organizada por Léo Peixoto Rodrigues, Rafael Braz Da Silva e Camila Dellagnese Prates, aborda a questão ambiental a partir de aspectos tanto de natureza filosófica, epistemológica e metodológica quanto de natureza empírica. Estruturado em oito capítulos, o livro reúne estudos de pesquisadores brasileiros e estrangeiros que se dedicaram a pesquisas que enfocam as questões socioambientais, considerando os problemas sociais decorrentes da degradação do meio ambiente, a fim de ressignificar a sociologia ambiental por meio de novos olhares e novas abordagens.
Este livro apresenta ao leitor um conjunto de estudos sobre uma pluralidade de dinâmicas sociais, elaborados à luz de diferentes abordagens sociológicas. Os trabalhos evidenciam não somente a complexa rede de relações que constituem a realidade social contemporânea, mas mostram também as diferentes facetas – teórica, metodológica e epistemológica – da realização da pesquisa em sociologia.

The global spread of transnational mining investment, which has been taking place since the 1990s, has led to often volatile conflicts with local communities. This book examines the regulation of these conflicts through national, transnational and local legal processes. In doing so, it examines how legal authority is being redistributed among public and private actors, as well as national and transnational actors, as a result of globalizing forces. The book presents a case study concerning the negotiation of land transfer and resettlement between a transnational mining enterprise and indigenous peasants in the Andes of Peru. The case study is used to explore the intensely local dynamics involved in negotiations between corporate and community representatives and the role played by legal ordering in these relations. In particular, the book examines the operation of a transnational legal regime managed by the World Bank to remedy the social and environmental impacts of projects which receive Bank assistance. The book explores the nature and character of the World Bank regime and the multiple consequences of this projection of transnational law into a local dispute.

This book brings together several systems-level approaches to the consideration of the interaction of livelihood choices, natural resource management and participatory action research on sustainable development. By focusing on these approaches to community change, the volume hopes to encourage readers to consider how they might adopt methods such as Sustainable Livelihoods Approach (SLA), Community Capitals Framework (CCF) and Participatory Action Research (PAR) in their own research, practice and teaching.
