The objectives of the audit were: 1) to determine whether the federal government is applying the 1999 Cabinet Directive on the Environmental Assessment of Policies, Plans and Programs (that is, strategic environmental assessment); 2) to assess the progress made by selected federal government departments and agencies towards specific sustainable development commitments on strategic environmental assessment related to, and in the context of, their sustainable development strategies.
