BarrioPOP
Brownsville artist, Cande Aguilar is a visual artist that reflects on border culture through his barrioPOP distinctive style, with large canvasses featuring graffiti art, pop culture images, bold and bright colors. The exhibition features a strong collection of stimulating abstract visuals of large scale paintings and installations, from November 11 through January 5, 2018 at Beyond Arts Gallery in Harlingen TX. This exhibition booklet contains a review by artist/writer Noe Hinojosa, an excurpt by Nancy Moyer, critic for The Monitor, installation photos, and featured work images.

Día Mundial de la Poesía 2020
Acerca del Día Mundial de Poesía Por Redacción Proclamado por la UNESCO durante su 30° reunión, celebrada en París en octubre-noviembre de 1999, el organismo, presidido por Federico Mayor Zaragoza, decidió proclamar cada 21 de marzo, como Día Mundial de la Poesía, atendiendo la propuesta que dos años antes, realizaran, entre otros, la poeta Gloria Fuertes y el editor Antonio Pastor Bustamante. Desde 1999, cada 21 de marzo, se celebra el DÍA MUNDIAL DE LA POESÍA con objetivo de apoyar la diversidad lingüística y dar la oportunidad a las lenguas amenazadas de ser un vehículo de comunicación artística en sus comunidades respectivas. Se pretende, además, promover la enseñanza de la poesía, fomentar la tradición oral, los recitales poéticos, apoyar a las pequeñas editoriales, crear una imagen atractiva de la poesía en los medios de comunicación para que no se considere una forma anticuada de arte, sino una vía de expresión y restablecer el diálogo entre la poesía y las demás manifestaciones artísticas, como el teatro, la danza, la música y la pintura.

Between Two Worlds
Between Two Worlds is a lifeÍs work in poetry by the famous folklorist, novelist and mentor of at least two generations, of Chicano scholars and writers. Between Two Worlds is a selection of ParedesÍ poetry from the 1930s and 1940sm sine if which was published in Texas newspapers. Consequently the poetry has both historical and literary merit. Paredes calls his poems ñthe scribblings of a ïproto-ChicanoÍ of a half-century ago.î He is indeed the one clear forerunner of the flourishing of Chicano literature that occurred in the last two decades; his themes, styles and political stances have all become the mainstays of todayÍs literature and world view.
