The Teyler Museum in Haarlem owns a renowned collection of original Italian drawings of the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. For the first time, this book offers a complete and fully illustrated catalogue of these drawings. The book features four indices, dedicated to artists, subjects, drawings in other collections, and an index of related works, as well as a concordance. Carel van Tuyll van Serooskerken was curator of the art collections of the Teyler Museum in Haarlem from 1984, becoming its chief curator in 1989. In 2000 he published a catalogue of the museum's Italian Renaissance drawings. Four years later he joined the Musée du Louvre as Director of the Graphic Arts Department, a position from which he retired in 2013
The most famous achievement of Annibale Carracci (1560-1609) is his celebrated series of frescoes in the Palazzo Farnese in Rome (1596-1604). The unveiling of the Galleria Farnese's ceiling led to a growing stream of artistic commissions from Cardinal Farnese and other patrons, all eager to secure works by the artist. However, the severe mental and physical breakdown that Annibale suffered in early 1605 made it impossible for him to undertake new projects, and few works are known from the last years of his life other than some etchings and some remarkable-and too often underrated-drawings. This publication aims to take a fresh look at these late drawings of one of Italy's foremost draftsmen, highlighting some well-known works as well as other, less familiar sheets from the Morgan and elsewhere.

Passion and Control explores Dutch architectural culture of the eighteenth century, revealing the central importance of architecture to society in this period and redefining long-established paradigms of early modern architectural history. Architecture was a passion for many of the men and women in this book; wealthy patrons, burgomasters, princes and scientists were all in turn infected with architectural mania. It was a passion shared with artists, architects and builders, and a vast cast of Dutch society who contributed to a complex web of architectural discourse and who influenced building practice. The author presents a rich tapestry of sources to reconstruct the cultural context and meaning of these buildings as they were perceived by contemporaries, including representations in texts, drawings and prints, and builds on recent research by cultural historians on consumerism, material culture and luxury, print culture and the public sphere, and the history of ideas and mentalities.
The celebrated French artist Edme Bouchardon (1698–1762) is primarily known as a sculptor today, but his contemporaries widely lauded him as a draftsman as well. Talented, highly innovative, and deeply invested in the medium, Bouchardon made an important contribution to the European art and culture of his time, and in particular to the history of drawing. The articles are mainly divided into two fields of attention: the analytical bibliography of the printed book (book production, studies of the technical aspects of type-setting and printing, type founding, printing presses, paper etc.) and the typographical design of books (its functions and its influence on how texts are read).
