Nación Genízara examines the history, cultural evolution, and survival of the Genízaro people. The contributors to this volume cover topics including ethnogenesis, slavery, settlements, poetics, religion, gender, family history, and mestizo genetics. Fray Angélico Chávez defined Genízaro as the ethnic term given to indigenous people of mixed tribal origins living among the Hispano population in Spanish fashion. They entered colonial society as captives taken during wars with Utes, Apaches, Comanches, Kiowas, Navajos, and Pawnees. Genízaros comprised a third of the population by 1800. Many assimilated into Hispano and Pueblo society, but others in the land-grant communities maintained their identity through ritual, self-government, and kinship. Today the persistence of Genízaro identity blurs the lines of distinction between Native and Hispanic frameworks of race and cultural affiliation. This is the first study to focus exclusively on the detribalized Native experience of the Genízaro in New Mexico.

It is widely recognized that the degree of development of a science is given by the transition from a mainly descriptive stage to a more quantitative stage. In this transition, qualitative interpretations (conceptual models) are complemented with quantification (numerical models, both, deterministic and stochastic). This has been the main task of mathematical geoscientists during the last forty years - to establish new frontiers and new challenges in the study and understanding of the natural world. Mathematics of Planet Earth comprises the proceedings of the International Association for Mathematical Geosciences Conference (IAMG2013), held in Madrid from September 2-6, 2013. Increasing irrigation efficiency has been high on the political agenda in Spain for many years. However, the overarching aim to reduce agricultural water consumption has not been met so far. To explore this phenomenon, Nora Schütze investigates processes of coordination between the water and agricultural sector in three Spanish river basins in the context of the EU Water Framework Directive implementation. From the perspective of polycentric governance, she identifies multiple mechanisms which illustrate how and why actors interact in certain ways, and thus shows why environmental aims of the Water Framework Directive remain unachieved.
A les acaballes de l'edat mitjana, l'Albufera de València era un ample estany salobrenc que, voltat de vinyes, oliveres i carrascars dispersos, s'estenia entre el cap de Cullera i la desembocadura del Guadalaviar. Del segle XVII ençà, l'expansió del regadiu i les operacions de drenatge capgiraren els paràmetres hidrològics i transformaren el paisatge de l'aiguamoll. L'Albufera d'aigua dolça, de les hortes i els arrossars, convertida en imatge tòpica pels textos de Blasco Ibánez, és per tant, en realitat, una construcció antròpica relativament recent. A partir de l'estudi de la documentació històrica i cartogràfica, aquest llibre reconstrueix el procés de canvi ambiental que s'hi ha experimentat de resultes de segles de treballs hidràulics, i examina de manera detallada les intervencions humanes que han fet de l'Albufera de València un producte de natura i cultura.
La Universitat de València té la ferma voluntat d'abordar accions institucionals al territori i referides al territori, i per això dedica aquest estudi a tres ambients diferents tan diferents com el litoral (Parc Natural de l'Albufera), el fluvial (Parc Natural del Túria) i el muntanyós (Parc Natural de la Calderona). La publicació recull recerques, anàlisis i reflexions des d'una perspectiva multidisciplinar, sobre la fauna i la flora, la qualitat de les aigües, els usos del sòl, els jaciments arqueològics, les expressions artístiques i arquitectòniques, les rutes, les problemàtiques específiques, els processos de creació de les figures de protecció, els valors mediambientals i les activitats econòmiques predominants. En definitiva, aquest volum representa l'interès de la Universitat per transferir coneixements i aproximar l'acadèmia a la ciutadania.
