Fan Loyalty chronicles the journey of a young woman as she said "I am going to meet him." She did not know it at the time, but the man she was speaking about was the singer Brook Benton. She did get to meet he, and his entire family. She shares with us that amazing journey. Fan loyalty reminds us how important words are and lets us know that the words we choose create our world. It challenges us to embrace and learn from the things that unfold in our lives. The naiveté of the young person, the loyalty to the sound, the love that she showed and the friendships that developed is heartfelt throughout this moving and inspirational piece. Here's what the fans have to say.... "Mr. magic, Mr. Wonderful, they don't sing like that anymore." -Michael B. "I love his singing!" -Dorothy G. "The smoothest singer, great songwriter, the best baritone ever!"-Carol M. "Brook Benton, a legend" -Alma W. "I love his music, his singing." -Irene T. "I love it's just a matter of time and the boll weevil." -Lenis G.

For I Was Hungry and You Gave Me Food

In the first century, endemic food shortages left 25 percent of the population below subsistence level and another 30 percent at risk of slipping below subsistence. In the face of such serious food shortages, the Gospel of Matthew advocates for a society in which all people can have access to sufficient food. Matthew critiques first-century practices and attitudes of both aristocrats and peasants that helped or hindered that goal. It does this by depicting Jesus teaching and performing positive practices that provided the Matthean community with an example to emulate, as well as condemning some negative practices and attitudes. For I Was Hungry and You Gave Me Food provides a pragmatic lens and a new descriptive paradigm of food access in the first century. The perspective and model are useful for analyzing passages concerned with life-and-death issues of the Matthean community--or situations for any other Christian community, past or present. Should not every person have enough food to sustain physical life?

Jesus, Paul, Luke-Acts, and 1 Clement

In this book, the author draws on two original sources, on a Greek biographer, historian, and rhetorician, Dionysius of Halicarnassus, as well as on Pompeian domestic art and architecture. Generally, NT scholars read texts, but Greeks and ancient Romans loved beauty. The walls and floors of their houses were decorated with thousands of colorful frescoes and mosaics, art that two millennia later is still on display in Pompeii. Christians lived and worshipped in those typical houses; relating the art to NT texts generates many intriguing new questions! What stories/myths did Greeks and Romans see every day? What were their sports, and how violent were they? Many NT scholars know as much or mor...
