Flavonoids in the Living System
The presence of contaminant flavonoids in vitamin C preparations from citrus fruits initially led Szent-Gyorgyi and his collaborators to suggest that a flavonoid compound, with biological activity for the prevention of capillary fragility, was vitamin P. The Nationalist Dilemma

Drawing on historical case studies from thirty countries – from the American Revolution to the rise of China – this book paints a broad panorama of economic nationalism over the past 250 years. It explains why such thinking has become influential, despite the internal contradictions and chequered record of many nationalist policy makers. At the root of economic nationalism's appeal is its ability to capitalise upon economic inequality, both domestic and international. Picturing Women in Late Medieval and Renaissance Art
This extensively illustrated book discusses the representation of women in the art of the late Middle Ages in Northern Europe. Drawing on a wide range of different media, but making particular use of the rich plethora of woodcuts, the author charts how the images of women changed during the period and proposes two basic categories - the Virgin and Eve, good and evil. Within these, however, we discover attitudes to sinful, foolish, married and unmarried women and the style and use of these images exposes the full extent of the misogyny entrenched in medieval society.
The Challenges of Incorporating the Visegrad Countries Into the European Union
The fall of communism which swept through Eastern Europe in 1989 brought euphoric energy across the European continent as newspapers splashed moving pictures portraying laughter, tears, confusion and hope. The economic and political landscape was significantly altered and yet it did not seem to matter, for change was good. Freedom was viewed as opportunity, prosperity and finally a chance for peace to mean more than merely the absence of war. Recognizing the lack of the EU's initiative to come to their aid, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic have each made it a major agenda item for themselves, that they become full members of the EU as soon as possible.

There are two kinds of football in France. American football was first played in France in 1909 during the cruise of the Great White Fleet. Then, during World War I, the American military shipped footballs, helmets, and shoulder pads alongside rifles and ammunition to the western front.
