This book presents methodological and application research in detecting cellular and molecular biophysical properties based on atomic force microscopy (AFM) nanorobotics. Series methods for in situ label-free visualizing and quantifying the multiple physical properties of single cells and single molecules were developed, including immobilization strategies for observing fine structures of living cells, measurements of single-cell mechanics, force recognition of molecular interactions, and mapping protein organizations on cell surface. The biomedical applications of these methods in clinical lymphoma treatments were explored in detail, including primary sample preparation, cancer cell recognition, AFM detection and data analysis. Future directions about the biomedical applications of AFM are also given.
This second volume offers numerous approaches to using Chinese medicine for the prevention and treatment of various diseases in medical practice. It brings the concepts and theories learned in the first volume and applies them in clinical settings with real patient examples. It goes over the four natures and five flavors of herbal drugs, and covers the different techniques of acupuncture. The book considers how the advancements in modern technology have shaped Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and discusses the revolutionary innovations that are occurring in the Chinese medicine industry today and how they will shape the future.
This volume provides both an overview and detailed concepts of the history of Chinese medicine. It considers its evolution throughout history, from the Pre-Qin dynasties until the present day, and provides insights into the theory of body systems and how balance creates health in the human body. The book also explicates the theory of viscera and the concepts of Qi, meridian, and collateral, and details the diagnosis of diseases in Chinese medicine.
Many countries are witnessing an aging of the population and a rapid decline in birth rate. The global shift in population structure toward older age groups imposes great challenges to public health. The incidence of infertility and pregnancy complications is increasing with women's age. Further studies on age-related infertility and pathological pregnancy are warranted.
The COVID-19 pandemic functioned as a stark illuminator, exposing the deep-seated cracks in social and material support for those in caregiving roles. Despite the resilience of care workers and essential personnel, the lack of robust connections and infrastructure became apparent, impacting these individuals but resonating across the broader public. The pandemic laid bare the lengths people must go to care for others and the urgent need for interconnectedness and support within caregiving realms. Perspectives on Social and Material Fractures in Care offers a multi-disciplinary exploration of care, drawing on existing theoretical frameworks, empirical research, and personal stories. This book systematically introduces the fundamentals, preparation technology, state-of-the-art applications, and future development of biomass-derived porous carbon materials. The authors provide a theoretical foundation that demonstrates the microstructure and physicochemical properties of carbon materials. The fabrication methods, including physical activation methods, chemical activation methods, and advances in other new fabrication methods are explicitly described. The book also identifies many potential applications of biomass (especially biomass-derived porous carbon materials), such as supercapacitors, removal of organic pollutants from water, CO2 capture, photocatalytic application, and farmland restoration. The book will be a valuable resource for researchers, scientists, and engineers working in the field of biomass-derived porous carbon materials, carbon resource development, and environmental protection.
This book explores how to tackle the challenges of urbanization through international lessons in sustainable development and smart growth strategies. As readers will discover, smart growth offers an approach to urbanization with the aim to: improve the efficiency of land use, protect the natural and cultural environment, promote economic prosperity and improve the quality of life. Authors address various challenges experienced in China, including deepening regional imbalances, an aging population, wholesale environmental degradation and traffic congestion. China’s official long-term urbanization plan sets many challenges for urban planners, these range from implementation of the plan and f...
Fuzzy systems and data mining are indispensible aspects of the digital technology on which we now all depend. Fuzzy logic is intrinsic to applications in the electrical, chemical and engineering industries, and also in the fields of management and environmental issues. Data mining is indispensible in dealing with big data, massive data, and scalable, parallel and distributed algorithms. This book presents the proceedings of FSDM 2023, the 9th International Conference on Fuzzy Systems and Data Mining, held from 10-13 November 2023 as a hybrid event, with some participants attending in Chongqing, China, and others online. The conference focuses on four main areas: fuzzy theory, algorithms and ...
